I am going to build a carbon barreled rifle and need it to be light. The barrel is 1.25 inches and was wondering who makes a lighter stock for this application? HS or McMillan, I own them both and like them both.

The Edge fill McMillan stocks will be lighter and stronger than a chopped glass stock.

I've got both too. Brad is right as far as the shell goes. The reason the HS has the aluminium bedding block is because their action area is not strong enough to hold the action w/o compressing over time. Not only that, but because they are made from different materials, they expand and contract at different rates thus having the potential to torgue the action in bad ways. No HS I'm familar with is as light as the basic McMillian stock, let alone the Edge stocks. E

HS and "ergos" are polar opposites. Some is under the illusion that there's a certain "mystique" to HS,but none of them folks shoot much.
You gotta go MPI to trump their schittyness................

Although a Montana stock does appeal to me more...

I would reconsider that carbon barrel. I have seen better results from my micro thin mountain taper than from my fat ass carbon barrel.......dispite the propoganda. pretty coot, but not everything they would have you believe.
I would not buy something that runs on any kind of primer given the possibility of primer shortages and even regulations. In fact, why not buy a flintlock? Really. Rocks aren't going away anytime soon.
