Their current issue has a few comments about the Chevy, Dodge and the Ford 3/4 ton trucks in 4WD.
I'd say worth reading, but certainly not all there is to consider when choosing one. For your information. E

I have found Consumer Reports' automotive tests to be largely irrelevant to the kinds of vehicles and the kinds of driving that suit my needs. May have to look at this one, though. Can the report be viewed online without a subscription?

+1. I read their tire recommendations especially truck tire recommendations. They had the Continental truck tire rated #1 . I think someone at Continental paid off a reviewer since the reviews of people that actually purchased those tires was 10-1 negative .

Yes, one needs to keep in mind that they are based in the east and they don't do any serious off road testing. They talk alot about what it's like to drive them under ordinary conditions and the small differences between them.
In spite of the above, their opinions are worth considering even if I don't agree with all of their conclusions.
I don't know about viewing their test results on line. E

What they need to do is go to places like the gold mines in Nevada and see which 4x4 trucks hold up to harsh environments: Which 4x4 lasts the longest in extreme conditions and list the problems they have over about a years time. Just a suggestion.

Brother in law works mines in Yukon and B.C. and they have tried them all, even the H-1 hummers. Keep going back to Ford F250s, even at that, after a years use they can push the cab off the frame as everything is torn loose! For just running around and light use all chevys.

Their conclusions are a result of their testing methodology. On some products, they seem to focus on features that just don't have the importance (to me) that CR gives them.

I've also noticed that they test models of a product that are not available to me, and just about every brand of any product has good models and poor models.
