Fairly new to the fire, but I'm hoping some of you that have A7's can give me some feedback. I have a A7 Stainless .300WSM. Love the rifle, and it shoots unbelievably well. I've never been very impressed with the way it ejects spent brass, and I just realized why. I have a 3-9 Nikon Monarch UCC on it in Leupold Rifleman low rings. I know they're cheap, and intended to replace them at some point. However, I just noticed that the cap on the scope's windage adjustment is all scratched up on the bottom. I put some spent brass in the chamber, and sure enough, when you work the action, the brass hits the scope as it's flying out of the action. What are my options? Have any other A7 owners run into this? Do I just get Medium or High rings? I really like the way the gun is set up, and don't want the scope higher if I don't have to have it that way. Please advise.

You mean sorta like this? I've been down this road with the same rifle. The solution to my problem was going to a Leupold scope if you want to run low or extra low rings. And just to prove it to yourself. Remove the scope windage cap and see if it stops. Unless the Nikon has some adjustments that stick out pretty good.

Thanks for the tip on the Leupolds. I have a 3-9x40 VXII on my .243, and I just compared it to the Monarch. By eyeballing it, the Leupold's caps seem to stick out 1/4" or 3/8" less than the Nikon. I guess I can try putting the Leupold on the Sako and see how it works. Thank you very much! Anybody else having this issue? If so, how did you remedy it?

I had a 2-7x33, 2.5-8x36 and presently a 6x42 Leupold on my 300WSM A7(Talley LW lows). Like Bob mentioned you shouldn't have issues with a Leupold scope, I didn't.

I don't have an issue with a 6x36 leupold on one and a 6x38 weaver on the other.

Ditto. I have Leupold and Talley LW rings. No issues.

Ok thanks everyone. I'll put the Leupold on tonight. If it still hits, I'll just get a set of Talleys. Seems that the Leupold/Talley combo might be what I need. I was planning to upgrade the ring/base system eventually anyway, no time like the present.

Rotate the scope 90 degrees so that the elevation adjustment is on the left side of the rifle and the windage adjustment is on top. Readjust your scope settings and you will be good to go.

I actually had thought about doing that, except that the Monarch has the BDC reticle. If I still have issues with empty brass hitting a Leupold, I have a Bushnell 4200 with a standard Duplex that I could put on there, mounted as you describe.

OOPS!! I hadn't considered that it may have something other than a duplex reticle.

Thanks for all of the input everyone! I put the VX-II on last night, and sure enough, the brass clears the scope just fine as long as I don't work the bolt too slowly. Now I just have to see if I can justify the expense of a VX-3 for the gun, as the VX-II is already back on my .243. How do the VX-3's stack up to the Monarchs, VX-II's, and Elite 4200's I have on my other rifles? Do the adjustment caps on VX-3's sit as low as those on the VX-II's? I'll be buying either a 3-9x40 VX-II or a 3.5-10 VX-3. Thanks again!
