Probably everyone remember their first car.

What was your first gun?

Mine was a Winchester 320 22lr I got as a shared present with my older brother. I was in second grade.

My first gun that was all mine was a Lee Enfield .303 British my dad picked up as a WWII surplus. I still have 'em both.

My first firearm was a stevens 20 gauge single shot, break action.

I still have it.

First handgun was a Dan Wesson revolver in 357 magnum. It was a high gloss blued finishand it was not an exchangable barrel model like many were. It was a really nice revolver. Sold it for elk hunting money one year.

First rifire rifle was a nylon 66, I still have it.

First centerfire rifle was a M70 FWT in 30-06 given to my by my dad. I still have it of course.

Something clever here.

First car was a '61 Studebaker Lark VIII.

First gun, a Crackshot 26 given to me on my 7th birthday. It is sitting in the safe right now. I shot it about a month ago.

My first new gun was a Stevens Model 63 and it is stacked beside the Crackshot 26.

Lots of good memories with both.

Ed

1967 Marlin 330 Rc/ .30/30, straight stock. I used my lawn mowing money to buy. Dad took me to the hardware store on my birthday. I paid for the gun, he bought the ammo.

Still sitting in my safe right now.

Car, 1955 Plymouth Savoy business coupe. It eventually got a transplanted Desoto hemi engine out of a 56 Firedome coupe!

Stevens Single Shot Bolt 22 . You pulled the back of the bolt back to cock it. Killed my first big game animal with it, Gray Squirrel . Killing my first Elk never had as much meaning as that first squirrel . Winchester LRHP. I sit and smelled the burned powder from the case for a while. The best high a little boy could have.

My first vehicle was not a car, rather a 1947 Ford stakeside truck. Sold it like a fool but the memories remain.

1st gun = Springfield Single Shot .22 (still have it) Was 8 years old

1st Pistol = Ruger Mark I Target Was 12 years old, X-Mas present. Remember hearing my folks talking about selling it and I asked why? It was Christmas and money was tight. I asked for the pistol instead and surprisingly that's what was under the tree. My mom had bought it new in '70. (still have it)

It is a 20 gauge Remington 870 Wingmaster. It was my Christmas gift from my parents in 1967. The gun came with a 28 inch full choke barrel and I latter bought a 26 inch improved cylinder barrel to use for for quail hunting.

I killed truck loads of rabbits, squirrels, turkey, doves, and quail, with that shotgun. I also used it to kill my first whitetail deer.

My oldest son has killed several turkey with the gun. He was eleven when he used it to kill his limit on his first dove hunt.

My youngest boy has been shooting clays with it and I plan to take him for his first dove hunt this season.

This is one of my Brittany Spaniels with the gun and some bob white quail.

Shotgun - Harrington and Richardson Topper Model 410

Rifle - Winchester Model 47 Target

Handgun - Colt Scout

Centerfire Rifle = MarkIII Enfield

The H&R is the only one still around, the rest serving as reminders of the ignorance of youth.

I posted this a couple years ago, here it is again:

Lander, Wyoming in 1948-49 was a small, remote ranch town of about 2500 people where the Great Depression was just starting to end. As a nine year old boy, I would spend my 15 cents at the Saturday matinee and then go hang out at my favorite place, Spaldsbury's Saddlery and Sporting Goods. What a wonderful place it was: odors of new and old leather, new and old horse blankets, pipe smoke, original Hoppes and gun oil, occsionally a faint whiff of whiskey. Glass cabinets full of old Colts and Smith&Wessons. Racks full of Winchesters, Remingtons, Marlins, etc. More racks full of surplus Krags, Springfield bolt guns and trapdoors. Fishing gear too. Spitoons and sawdust on the floor.
One day a brand new Winchester 67 Youth appeared, price only $13.00 IIRC. I had some Christmas and birthday money squirreled away and conned Dad into spliting the cost. I didnt have to sign for it but Dad had to come down and carry it out for me.
I spent the next 3 years or so potting tin cans, stray crows and riding along behind Dad on old Poppin' Johnny, terrorizing prairie dogs. I learned to shoot with that gun.
At age 12 or 13 I got the hots for a new Remington model 512 at Spaldsburys, so I traded in the 67 on it This was in about 1952. Never looked back until much later in life.
In 1982, my Air Force career at an end, I moved back to Lander to start a new life. Every once in a while I would go to a gun show and see a Model 67 Youth and get a lump in my throat, longing for the days of my childhood and kicking my self for ever trading off my very first gun.
About 3 years ago my wife and I stopped at a yard sale put on by an older fellow here in town. He had some guns on a table and there it was, a Winchester 67 youth in very good condition. Got to chatting him up about it and asked him the history of the gun. He said he got it for his little son but the kid never took an interest in it, so it had been in the back of the closet for the last 50 years. I asked him where he got it, he said he bought it used at Spaldsburys in about 1952!! I gave him his $100.00 and ran for my truck , shaking like a leaf!
I cleaned it up and took it to the range to shoot a few cans, which I did, but it was difficult, I kept getting some smoke in my eyes.
My very first gun is back with me, and holds a place of honor in my safe. Life is good.
