Well life didn't plan on letting me go to Alaska, Texas, or another hunters paradise, I ended up in Ohio for three years? I'm near Dayton and was looking at counties with good public hunting. I'm not sure what type of hunting there is in Ohio? Can anyone chime in and point a guy in the right direction? Thanks Esox357.

Airforce? Navy?
I grew up in Ohio, you'll find Groundhogs and Coyotes all over the menu down there. I am envious. ADam

South and east my man. Wayne National Forest, Dean State Forrest, Zaleski State Forrest, AEP land access..............
Ohio is loaded with public hunting, you're just on the wrong side for the best deer, turkey and grouse hunting. Predators, small game is great too.
I loved hunting in Ohio, except for the no center fire rifles for deer.
Lots of easy access small fishing lakes as well.

When I lived in Ohio (Mt. Vernon) many years ago. You could get a permit from Ohio Power to hunt their reclaimed land in So. Ohio. Fishing was better than excellant and the deer hunting wasn't bad. I normally hunted deer with a bow in the local appple orchards. Once bow hunted a game farm that had wild boar and wild sheep in southern central part of the state. That was all years ago so don't know what the current conditions are. If I remember correctly deer was with bow or shotgun only.

You're within a few hours drive of good hunting. What do you like to hunt? Bow? Gun? Big game? Birds? Small game?

You could ask if there's a tag available.. (it's a JOKE, son)...

I agree with all the suggestions above. ( been here in Oh hi ya since hatched )
SE Ohio forests are the best deer hunting ANYWHERE !
Ohio Power? get a permit . It's free and good for life ( cost is a stamp )
All the rolling hills are filled with stocked ponds. Camp, hunt and fish everywhere.
I don't know what game your looking to chase, but Ohio is still a sportsman's home.

Thanks guys for the help, I interested in all hunting mostly deer and upland birds but wouldn't mine getting on some yotes and groundhogs? Anyways just trying to find a place to stay so hunting will be my next priority after getting moved in. I appreciate it and look forward to seeing what kind of hunting I can find here. Any good gunstores/outdoors places as well? Esox357.

I've never seen more deer than I have in Ohio. Over by Buckeye Lake, I'd see 75-100 deer on opening day, and 50-75 the next. You should be able to make that drive as a commute.
Wish I could make it there!
