As jim in oregon suggested, you might try Melatonin tablets -- Melatonin is a natural substance and some doctors have suggested taking that in lieu of writing a prescription for a "narcotic" type substance. It works for about everyone I know and I take it when my sleep pattern gets askew. You can get it at WalMart, KMart, etc..

Like jim in oregon(and 41 Keith. Dam ISP keeps kicking me off line!) said, try the Melatonin. Its a substance that promotes sleep and you'r body normally produces it.Its about $6-$7 a bottle at Walmart.I used it when I quit smoking and couldn't sleep. Just be sure not to get that the kind that has the B complex vitamins in it,the ones that pep ya up? I told a buddy at work about this stuff a few yrs ago and thats what he bought. He was so hot a few days later that he just about threw the bottle at me-"this ***** made it worse"!" I read the label and laughed and laughed! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Take one or two a couple hrs before going to bed.

Nope, sorry fish. Staying a heathen a while longer. No offense... Somehow the above reminded me about the young boy whose parents told him that he would go blind if he kept on doing "that" "I'll quit when I need glasses mom...."<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

The way I heard that story is that one didn't have a choice in the matter! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> You were just gonna go blind and nevermind a gradual descent to blindness (like the sinful so be so lucky!). <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Thank God I grew up where it was a joke and nothing more.

I feel your pain. Thursday night I laid down around 11:00, tossed and turned till 3:30, finally I fell asleep at 5:00 watching "13th Warrior" only to wake up at 7:00 to got to work. I have tried everything but perscription meds to get a decent nights sleep so I can't give any helpful advice.

Well, pretty much just duct tape for her mouth. She means well but ....I mean, I am NEVER going to wear the pink flower dress....EVER....I would have rather had the cash so I could put it toward my .22 this week. She means well....but shopping with her is like.....I don't know but I would rather pick a barn full of chicken [bleep]....WITH CHOP STICKS!!! HoundGirl HoundGirl, from the perspective of a Mother (and also someone who has an almost-son-in-law), I can say that she is trying to do things for you because she wants a relationship with you. You are important to her because you are important to her son. She is reaching out to you in the way she knows how. She is doing for you what she would like someone to do (or have done) for her. She is doing it out of love. Love her and cherish her. She may drive you crazy, but hey... who says life is easy? If you have a Bible handy, check out 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. Love never fails. With love, B'sW

In the hospital after a ruptured appendix (2 years after a heart attack) I became sleep-deprived. The Doctor had me shot up with powerful antibiotics and things were dicey. I overheard him say to a nurse that I had to be put in a quiet room by myself, with monitoring, in order to make it. When I got home I was worn out and could not sleep until I used Melatonin.

Look at it this way VA, when you help yer friend to move, you can slobber all over her girlfriend and plead temporary insanity rather than be pegged for being a lech. Given that lotsa women have soft spots for lunatics and stray dogs, she might be disposed towards nursing you back to mental health in a very good way.

I never had any trouble in the getting to sleep line that a good stiff nightcap wouldn't cure so I can't help you much.
I can give you one piece of advice. What ever you do don't go to one of those Sleep Diagnostic Centers to find out what's wrong with you.
My dear wife, bless her heart, read some damn woman's magazine or other and got convinced I had sleep apnea. Hell's bells, I snore, OK.
Nothing would do but I had to go to this sleep clinic. I finally went just to make her happy and get some peace.
Checked in at 10 pm. Some gook person tries to get me to put on pj's. Told him I sleep in my skivies. He comences to wire me up. Got these damn wires running all over my bod. Stuck in my hair with bird poop or something. Tube stuck up my nose. Then this idiotic Son of the East says, " Go sleep now. Go sleep." Bull crap.
Lay there awhile and try to read a book. Finally turn out light and then notice that there is this stupid machine by my head that every once in a while goes Eeek Awwk and little lights blink.
Back starts to hurt and roll over to ease pain. Ankle starts to itch where these little hard plastic deally bobs are stuck to it. Have to scratch or die. Scratch. Now these damn wires are all over me. Wrapped up in them like a fly in a spider web. Feel like a major player in the scene from 20,000 Leagues under the Sea where they are fighting the giant squid.
Here comes Mr Moto again. "Mus be still, go sleep" Screw you Jack. He rewires me. Act II first scene. Somebody in the room next to me is eiter first cousin to a hog or there is a strangulation going on. Can't even get drowsy. It is now 1:30am. Waller a bit trying to get easy.
Ming the Merciless bounces back into the room. "What matter, can not read instrument. Go sleep now." Told him I had to go pee. He unhooks some sort of black box, hands it to me and asks if I need help. Told the lineal descendant of Gingis Kahn I had been going to the bathroom by myself for night on to sixty years and didn't need any help now.
Come back, get rewired, re-pluged in. Another "Go sleep now." Lay there and listen to my neighbor going Eeeeeeeee gargle, choke, arrrrk, snork, snork. Start to itch again.
Look at watch is now 3:30 am. Finally pass out from sheer exaustion. Somehow roll over and jerk box off table. Say the hell with this and proceed to get up. Watch says 5:15. The Beast of the East comes back. I tell him this is enough, I quit. Ask him when they gave up water torture. He doesn't get the joke. Asks me why I am so hostile. I tell him my brother got killed in Korea and I am still upset about it. (Lie but by this time I don't give a poop. Just want out)
We took the wires off one whole hell of a lot quicker than they went on, I put on my pants and cleared the area. No tip either.
Get to the bottom floor and the door is locked. Can't get out. Started to kick out the bottom panel. Go to desk phone. Can't raise anybody. I guess the night watchman is off diddling a corpse or something.
Start around the floor hitting every door I could find. Finally found one open on the far side of the building. Walk a half mile in the cold pre-dawn to my pickup. I am dying for a smoke, coffee and my damn hair is still plastered with bird poop. And I itch like I got mange.
Find pickup, get pipe going and search for coffee. Find donut shop that is just opening. Gook donut shop. Anyway do get fresh coffee and some fresh cinnamon twists. Go home fifty miles and sleep like a baby that afternoon.
I hope you get your insomnia cured but like I say what ever you do don't go to one of them torture chambers to find out why you got it.
BTW, I didn't have no sleep apnea so they said.

dude, THAT was a nightmare!
how would they know if you had sleep apnea, anyhow? you never went to sleep long enough to tell.
i tell ya, women's magazines are dangerous - to the pocketbook, to the mind and to the soul.
