You have made a good buy there. You wont lose any money if you ever decide to sell. There was a thread about these rifles last month and many happy owners reported in. I have booked hunters for Elk who found that these rifles do not like extreme cold but if you keep em clean and use minimal oil of a low viscosity and do not ask them to perform at below freezing temperature they are very nice rifles and probably the most accurate semi auto's ever built.

I am interested in buying that gun, or i am willing to make you a trade on the gun. I have been looking for a BAR 30.06 for a while. Let me know if you are interested.

They're heavy and loud! and they through brass a friggen mile. Had a guy at the range today with a BAR 243 sit at the bench next to me and i got peppered with brass. Totaly not able to concentrate with brass flying at my face!! Some times it sucks shooting left handed!!!
Other than that. I think you'll be extreemly pleased with the rifle. very accurate and rather easy to point. IMHO.

Good luck and good hunting.

I have a Belgium Grade II that I love. Not the most accurate rifle I own, but fast handleing/shooting.

Paul,

I keep a cardboard box in my ride for when I shoot the BAR, and for the (oblivious) people who set up next to me.

Any of the Brownings that you get a hold of that are made in Belgium are of very good quality. I have about a 40 year old Browning .22 Auto that is Belgian....bought it at Sears for 86.00!!!!!!!

Gator1,
i generally try to set up at the first bench on the left so i don't have to wory about that. If not i try to set up at least 1 bench up from semi auto guy's. Just don't work all the time.
Good shooting,
Paul

No matter how empty the range is, seems like the guy with the brand new semi-auto sets up next to me-on my left( The oblivious shooter I was refering to). Thats who I offer the box to. Most are thankful, some ain't.

All this BAR talk makes me wonder about my thoughts on leaving her home this season.

The BAR is a great weapon. I have one that was made in "79 and it will hold its own against most bolt guns. Three shot groups at 100yards can be covered with a single dime.

Paul W, I had a couple of fellows set up next to me at the range one day, they brought along a BAR in 338 WM with the BOSS system. The noise was so loud that I simply could not bear to be in the vicinity, even with good hearing protection. the brass belching got so bad that one fellow would shoot and the other held a metal trash can lid to block the brass from flying on other shooters. these guys looked like total idiots! that said, there is a very nice looking BAR in 25-06 at the local shop that I have been watching. not sure what I would do with it as one shot usually does the trick but it is tempting.

I have a Belgian BAR from the late 70s or so in .270 Win. It is a nice rifle, a little heavy but will keep Hornady Custom 140 gr. BTSP right at 1 inch all day long. Great tree stand rifle for around here.

I hunt with a BAR .243 safari and a BAR lightweight .270 in duracoat mossyoak camo, great shooters, accurate, and loud.

Great choice.

257Bob,
Now that would've been a sight to behold I can picture it now and i'm getting a little chuckle out of the idea . The boss thing is friggen tourture!! i've got a win70 264WM with boss. Have been contemplating takin a hacksaw to it. might just rebarrel it. I can like the BAR's very atractive and they generally shoot well. i could have some fun with one in a 25.

When a BAR is throwing brass as far as some of you guys are observing something is wrong. Handloads with slow burning powders keep the pressure curve up too far up the barrel and the actions are subjected to higher pressures and speeds than necessary. Bolt energy increases with higher speed just like bullet energy increases with velocity and batters the action accordingly. A poor man's indicator of action speed is how far the brass is being thrown.
A powder close to the the midpoint of the burn speed range is advised. IMR 4895 is about right for a 30/06. Keeping loads to starting levels or close to it is a good idea also. Maximum loads belong in bolt actions.

I got that beat. 2 guys showed up at the range with a SS Guide Gun .45-70. Looked so lost the Ranger and I helped them out. They said it was for their boat on long trips.

One guy donned a life vest to use as a recoil pad-the old orange type. Even his buddy got a good laugh. Both had a "gothic" look going, so that with a life preserver and throw in a big bore lever gun, and you've the picture.

Shot my BAR lwt( 06 wood stock ,20"bbl) yesterday. Just checking zero. With factory WWpower points I shot some one hole groups at 100 and 1 1/2 at 200. I've used this rifle for the last 10 yrs, no complaints. It simply hits and kills deer dead out to 300 yds. I like things you can depend on and keep simple, mine wears a 2x7 leaupold. it is a tad heavy but I'm getting older. It just seems these other guys are just nit-picking. If it works, the heck with the other stuff. I also have a grade II 1970 model and it is just as good it is also an o6 but I wish I had it in .270

I have one that was my grandfather's. He passed it on to me when he was no longer able to hunt. I generally hunt with it every two or three years or so. Accuracy has been very good. A 4x Leupold should be about perfect for that rifle. Mine wears a Weaver K6, but i wouldn't be handicapped in the least with a 4x Leupold. I would say: "You done good!"

I have a Belgium BAR in 308 that for 10 years was my primary whitetail gun. One shot before opening weekend always verified zero, dead center at 100 yds. If that rifle came out of the safe, meat went in the freezer. Year before last I broke it out for the first time in several years, 2 rounds were fired, one to verify zero and 1 for meat.
