Visiting my nephew and he wanted to shoot his AR with me so we stepped out back and he pulled the trigger. Three rounds full auto before he could get his finger off the trigger. First thing I checked was the trigger spring because the hammer tension was next to nothing. He had it in backwards so I switched the spring around and we went out and shot it again. Same thing. I'm going to pull it apart tonight and inspect everything but I'm looking for any suggestions of what all the possible causes for this could be. Some other info, we were shooting Winchester white box 55 gr FMJ. I checked the primers but they are all seated as they should be.

Any help?

No. He's really new to AR's but he did say he had a problem before with misfires about every 10 - 20 rounds. On the misfires, he said the primer had been struck but it looked like a light strike.

I"d have said disconnector broke... but missing spring would do it too. Or should say could do it.

I ran a function check and it failed so when I took the trigger apart I found that the spring was missing. Hopefully I can find one locally so I can get it reassembled. Well, actually, my nephew is going to reassemble it with me watching.

Good idea and I've already decided he's getting an early Christmas present of a lower parts kit.

Replaced the disconnector spring today and voila, a legal semi-auto AR15 again. Nephew ordered a lower receiver parts kit today also for backups.

Thanks to all for the help and advice.
