Son and I took the 6.5X.284 and .300 WSM out on the back fields to do a little practice for this fall. Heat was unbrearable even early this am. By 10:00 the mirage was soo bad that you couldn't even see a 12" gong at 400 yards! Humidy and haze is awful. I bet the visibility is less than 1 mile. I like summer but this is too much!

lefty, where in the Mid-Atlantic are you, anyway? Yeah, it flat sucks here in VA, too.
Of course, after I (finally) get off of here and get the grass mowed, I'm gonna go see if I can find any more groundgriz to snipe. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

lefty I agree. I was shooting at 100 yards today and 200 last weekend and had a heckuva time. I have turned my magnification down to 6X or so and it has helped me when you have those mirage days. I can't help you at 400 though since the range I shoot only goes to 200. Just know that you aren't alone pal.

Bad up here too. 90 degrees with 90% humidity. I've been going out coyote hunting and it has not been wonderful. After two set-ups, I'm ready to drive around with the A/C on to cool down. Been doin lots of scouting while I'm out, so all is not lost. I'm learning the area like I never knew it before. And, the new GPS is invaluable in navigating. I'm mostly off road, way off. I don't know how I ever lived without one of these things before. They are a navigators dream come true. Flying small planes, I used the older navigation aides, before GPS' became popular. If I had a plane today, it would have a built in GPS...... Sure be glad when Sept comes along.. Two more weeks. Using my time to get all of my reloading done, inside where it's nice and kool..:) Hang in there, Don

We were building some tower stands in Ga. 2 weeks ago. Rented an auger/bobcat that would not work, so had to grab the posthole diggers. Put in 20 foot telephone poles 4 feet deep for each one. Needless to say, the "bear" was on the prowl.
Took my .243 and a call for some coyote hunting- never left the Jeep.
