Model is a #1-B - Medium Sporter... Should have 26" bbl.. Serial Number indicates 1990 manufacture, If I read it correctly... HTH

I have never seen a #1B that I'd call inaccurate, so if you like the caliber that's a nice one

The 6mm is a great cartridge, and a lot of fun.
Exquisitely turdlike in all of his many manifestations!!

Deal is struck. They will hold onto it till I get back to the homestead in Okt. and then it will be taken into possision.
I will have handwerks 3x Leupold with a freshly installed TK Lee 4" dot reticle to grace it by then.
Somehow - that rifle and scope coupled with 85 gr. TSXs have me think of clean harvests and lots of venison...
Colour me contend. Stand by for the reports. 6 weeks of Alaska is all to be endured before...

As this will be my first Ruger No. 1 - please allow to newbie questions?
1) How do you guys use to set the ejector pressure? Full ejaction or just extraction of the case?
2) Is there a way to decock the hammer w/o letting it fall?
Thanks.

I set mine to launch the spent cases clear. On the range I block the cases with my thumb as they eject so they don't clear the case and just remove it. Then when I hunt, when I reload the case is launched clear as I retrieve the next. Works for me and I don't have to make adjustments from range session to field. My method not the only way. I have a 6 mm Remington No. 1 and I enjoy it. Never hunted with it, not quite the right caliber for what I hunt here in Alaska. I may get out for a fox this winter with though.

The most accurate Number 1 i have owned out of at least a dozen was chambered in 6mm and the only one i have owned that didn't require some work to shoot well.
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

cmg congrats on your purchase. I am sure it will give you many years of enjoyment.
I have not tried the 85 gr. yet but intend to as I also think it sould collect the venison quite well.
Nice grab/find on that 3x Leupold. Very hard to find them even in the states. They sell for a pretty good buck when they do come up.
I love a true 2.5x or 3X for most of my hunting. 4x and 6X are a bit much for most of where I hunt
Please post a report once you get it

Thanks for the link with the serial # . Rifle seems to be of 1990 / 1991 manufacture.

Decocking a No. 1 with the lever all the way down or the block open, hold on to the lever and squeeze the trigger and ride the lever closed. Essentially you are closing the breach while squeezing the trigger.

Thanks, Army. Glad to hear that.
I was a little disturbed reading in the Ruger manual, that "decocking" was done -
"by pulling the trigger after making sure the chamber was empty, the rifle pointed in a safe direction and the safety on the "fire" position."

I just tried yesterday, it works but you will have to nearly completely re-open your block to recock the rifle, so it's no very different from doing it with an empty chamber.
The good new is that you can recock some silently. It's not necessary to perform the noisy "clack-schlack".
Do you plan to use it as an uncocked classical bolt action or cheap R93 or it is just for spring management when the gun remains in the safe ?

Just questions of an uninformed mind, I guess. Was thinking safe storage...

Anyone know the twist rate of the rifling on the 6MM. I'd like to try some 105 grain bullets I found.
