Been wanting a Ruger #1 in 30/40 Krag and was able to find a used one. Really no deal on the price, but just happy to get one before they dried up.I don't think I'm going to put a scope on it yet. I have always found Ruger sights to be pretty darn close.Pictue is not very good.Looks like this on both sides. Thanks for looking

How can you expect a "deal" on the price with wood like that? laugh

You are lucky they did not ask a premium for it. That is as nice of a 30-40 Krag no. 1 as I have seen and I must have looked over 20 of them last year when Cabelas announced them.
Geez, even the forend matches the grain in the buttstock!

I hope it shoots as good as it looks.. Very pretty. wink

Great caliber, great rifle, great wood! What's not to love?

The tiger striped, or fiddle back is not common in the Circassian stocks. They are usually black streaked, if anything other than light and plain. Yours is extra nice wood and you certainly are ahead in whatever you had to pay!
Really nice.

WOW!!! nice lumber on your new #1. I have always admired the 30/40 Krag case for its long neck.

Thanks to all.I think it had been shot about 100 round through it when I bought it. I paid the retail price of $1400 for it with RCBS dies and 75 brass.I didn't think twice. It's a priviledge to own such a firearm. The poor gentleman I bought it from was moving out of the country where they did not allow reloading and ammo was impossible to buy.

And the front and back match too! That's not always the case. Nice pick up! Forget the price - you got what you wanted. Done.

I am the person that Patrick bought the 30-40 from. He is absolutely correct about my reason for selling it. If not for my relocation, the 30-40 would have been one of the rifles that my wife would eventually be selling after my passing. I hated to let go of it, but Patrick gave me what I wanted for it, he did not quibble about the price and by the way, he is a fine person to do business with. I bought a 1A in 30-06, which unfortunately has plain wood, but at least the European ammo manufacturers provide many different loads for this caliber. I haven't had a chance to shoot the '06 much yet, but if it shoots well, it will be going to Romania with me.
