Did a little reading, and looks like IMR3031, Reloder 7, H322 are good general usage powders for these two cartridges. However, I haven't quite found specific load data for the velocity range I'm interested in. Hoping y'all can point me in the right direction. Rifle is a Ruger #1 with a 24 inch barrel.
Barnes 300gr TSX @ 2600fps Barnes 350gr TTSX @ 2400fps Hornady 350gr @ 2400fps Speer 400gr @ 2200fps
I've got some Reloder 15 to drive the 500gr bullets @ 2200fps.
Thanks!

TXpitdog - you're a lucky man...check out the latest "Rifle" magazine. Great stuff on loading the .458 Winchester magnum. 300gr Barnes, 350gr Kodiak and a cast 405gr w/gas check. regards, Homesteader.

I've used IMR 30-31 for years and have seen no compelling reason to change. I guess there may be better powders out now, however. RL 7 looks to be awfully good.

I use H335 w/350 TSX bullets.....H322 was not as good overall. Yep, I too want to try the Kodiak bullets in this, heard from a asst. guide up here that he highly favors them.

458 Lott, fed 215 primer, 78gr Reloader 15, Hornady 500gr JSP The Speer 400 grainer is a .45/70 bullet with a paper thin jacket. I would urge caution on where you use it with that load. The Remington 405 gn version is more appropriate with the .458 case. John

H-322 will get you there with alot less powder compression than the RL-15 w/ the 500 grainer's, My old tang safety Ruger in 458 WM does 2200 easy, But I keep it around 2150 or so for excellent accuracy w/ the Hornady DGS/DGX bullets.

Thanks all, it's interesting that even with a huge case, powder compression is a factor.

H4895 is your huckleberry! I have also had excellent results with 4895 in the 458 win
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

I use H4895 with Hornady 500g RN Interlocks and get just over 2000fps with a slightly compressed load.
I use Rel 7 with my 405 Lead bullets for my plinking load.
Since I'm not hunting any dangerous game with it, I haven't looked for the max velocity load, but the two mentioned powders are working great for me. Of course both loads us mag primers.
