570 with my Rock River Varmint is my personal best...not on the first shot, though; I had to walk 'em in. I didn't have the distance until I walked to the dead dog and lasered the truck.

I like to do my hunting BEFORE I pull the trigger! There is only one kind of dead, but there are many different kinds of wounded.

Johnnyappleseed: Great shot there on the Prairie Dog - good for you! And first shot no less. Back in 1969 I had a brand new Remington Rifle in the then brand new 25/06 Remington caliber. I headed for the Colville Indian Reservation in north central Washington State to Hunt Rock Chucks with it. I was doing so-so with it but did not care for the recoil when I spot a big old Boar Chuck on a rock ledge a LONG way out there! I set up my new 25/06 and sent 16 rounds down range before I killt said Chuck on the 17th shot. This was before laser range finders and I decided that said Chuck HAD to be 500 yards out there so I paced off (out and back) my "shot". It was right at 450 yards. And again this was a BIG Chuck. Your first shot hit on the Prairie Dog, again, was indeed a very good shot. Good luck come Speed Goat season! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
