Thanks Guys,
I have my 1st on the way(Pre 81 with the protruding Mag) in .308. I am really looking forward to owning/shooting this rifle. Any input would be outstanding.

I have one, but I can't hit a barn door at 50 yards with the damn thing. Thanks for buying it................

Steelhead,
It's that Tallahasee thing that has somrthing to do with shooting-should I lie, or ignore. Since I know you are a Gator, I will cut you some slack.
And hope you are kidding about the Barndoor thing.

748 and hornady's 165 gr bt. will print little 3 leaf clovers. Scott don't seat the bullets out to far, try Remington brass, and tighten the forearm bolt just as tight as you can get it.
the most expensive bullet there is isn't worth a plug nickel if it don't go where its supposed to. www.historicshooting.com

Ric,
I have the same rifle. Bought it "pre-owned" with the intention of rebarreling to .338-08. Its not pretty, but it shoots Remington 150gr Corelokts at about 1". I now use it for whitetails with the factory loads. Had to figure another platform to scratch the .338 itch.
Good luck.

Of course I am kidding. It shot just fine at 50 yards with some Winchester 150grain PP. Enjoy.

Steelhead you sound like me with my Browning b92 at 50 yards. Actually w/o using a rest my first shots always seem to be within a few inches of dead center - then things start to move around. Sure is a pretty thing. My first lever action desire was a BLR in 308, but then I saw the 44mag and it was easier to justify than a 308 because I already had a few bolt actions in rifle calibers. Still want a 308 but don't know which one, BLR, Shor track, Tikka, or maybe even a Howa with a refurb stock. Getting off track I know - congrats on the BLR they are pretty and point easily. Hope you love yours.

I have two model 81"s made in Japan. one is a .308 the other is a .358 win. They are absoutly great. I told my wife to buy the .358 with me, it has served me well on many exciting bear hunts and always does the job, I've shot 30 plus bears with it and never had to track one yet. The .308 is such an outstanding deer rifle, I don't use anything else, near or far it does the job. In my 70 + years I've shot or used almost everything. Enjoy the blr. One hell of a rifle.

I bought one in 1977 in .308. It was made in Belgium in 76. I put on a new Vari X-III in 1.5-5, and found it shot near moa with most everything I tried. I finally settled on the Federal Premium 165 gr btsp. They consistantly shoot moa or better if I do my part. It's still my go-to deer rifle and has taken over 60 in the 28 years I've had it. I think it is the perfect north country, big woods deer rifle.
