There is/was an outdoor writer there that also guided, for elk anyway. He is/was a very good hunter for many species; photographer too. Name is Judd Cooney. I think he has a regular contribution in American Hunter. I don't know if he is still in the game or if he's the one you allude to.

Judd is still there. I talked to him the other day. He just wrote about Bore Coat in M.L. His guide operation is in Iowa. I think it's Bow and M.L. only. His website is www.juddcooney.com IIRC

Yes, he's originally from SW Minnesota and I knew he had bow/mzlr hunts in SW Iowa in the Loess Hills. Good guy. Glad to know he is still at it.
