This past weekend was rather special on the Navajo Reservation and was one of the most productive photographically.
Friday evening was spent watching the full moon rise above the Cardinals smile in a remote canyon.

After the moonrise at sunset, I went to a lesser traveled part of a different canyon for the moonset at sunrise Saturday morning.

More images from these two canyons are posted in my gallery here:

Saturday afternoon, I met a friend from Cortez Colorado and we drove to a remote point overlooking the Colorado River in Marble Canyon to photograph the following sunset and sunrise.
Moonlight passing between the clouds dappled Marble Canyon.

Sunday morning broke with rain clouds above the canyon and Kaibab Plateau, but an opening to the east allowed the low angled sunlight to form almost a complete rainbow grin over the horseshoe-shaped bend in Marble Canyon.

More images from Marble Canyon can be seen here:

And on the drive out, we even saw a young UNICORN wink

Great stuff as usual! I haven't seen a Unicorn since the 70s, and that may be for multiple reasons.

Great photography is not about being in the right place at the right time, it is about putting yourself in the right place at the right time.

No doubt in my mind if I told Riley he was adopted, he would rejoice.... wink

That will change as he gets older. My Mother has been dead for eleven years and I still miss her a lot. Putting up corn and shelling peas are the worst. miles

My father's been dead for oer 21 years. I practice hearing him say my name, just so I won't forget how he sounded. That said, if I thought I was adopted, it would 'splain away a lot! wink

If I had to spend the rest of my life in one area it would be Southern Utah and Northern Arizona...

Don and Landman,
Thanks. The moonlight image was a 30 second exposure at ISO 800 and f/7.1 (sharper than if the lens is wide open at f/4). In retrospect, I should have probably used f/5.6 I was kinda experimenting with the moonlight in the canyon.
