JUST LOOKING FOR SOME QUICK ADVICE ON A GOOD BASE AND RING SET UP AT A DECENT PRICE. wILL BE MOUNTING A VX-3 4-14 AO AND THINKING ABOUT USING THE BURRIS XTR RINGS 30MM AND A TWO PIECE BASE LIKE WARNE. WILL THOSE BURRIS 30MM RINGS WORK ON THAT SCOPE?

The VX-3 4-14 AO has a 1" tube so the 30mm rings won't work. If you mean the "long range" model then it's a 30mm so they should work. I'm not trying to be a smart alec, leupold's naming nomenclature truly sucks and it's hard to figure out what someone's talking about with all the different combinations of vari's, v's, III's & 3's.
I can't see any reason the combo you mention shouldn't work fine. Just make sure you get the proper base for your rifle, the accutrigger models take a different rear base than the non-accutrigger models. The warne bases are weaver spec so the XTR rings should mate with them fine. I use the warne bases for a swarovski rail scope where the rail mounts require a weaver style base, they work well.

A better setup would be Burris Xtreme bases with Burris Signature Zee rings.
The most rock solid setup would be Burris Dual Dovetail bases with Burris Signature Dual Dovetail rings.
You may notice that I'm a huge fan of the Burris Signature rings. I am, and for good reason.
They hold the scope tight without marking the scope tube or putting stress on the tube. They are also a cheap way of centering your scope adjustment at your chosen shooting distance.

I like Warne TPA rings and their 2-piece bases. The TPA rings are little heavier than some, but I like the security of 4 torx screws.
That said, I consider all but 1 of my Savage 110 series rifles to be 2nd tier rifle, so they are mounted with less expensive scopes and mounts. Except for the 260 varmint rifle, they probably have B-Square Sport Utility rings and Warne bases. The B-Square rings are 1 of the least expensive Weaver-style rings on the market, at least that I am aware of, and I've yet to have them fail in any way. None of my Savage 110 series rifles is chambered to a cartridge that produces a heavy recoil, but they work fine with anything that I have from 223 through 30-06.

On Savages I've had great luck with B-square one piece bases and Warne QR rings or Burris Signatures. If your not going to move or change the scope DNZ's are rock solid.

I've had good luck with std weaver 2pc bases and rings. I have the inexpensive weaver quad-loc's on my 308 and burris zee rings on my 223 and both seem very solid. I will share that the short action savages are not all that short and you can run into some length issues with shorter scopes like the leupold/redfirld 2x7's and the vortex 2-7 . But with a 3-9 you should be fine.

I too would go with the Burris Signature Zee rings. As far as bases, just really any quality set of Weaver style bases should work.

footindave,
If your scope is 30mm the rings will work. All my scopes are in Burris Signature "Z" rings mounted on cheap weaver bases. Never have a problem.
