I have bid on one of these rifles and with about 7 hours left on the auction, I am still on top. I know that a lot can changein that amount of time, but I am already trying to plan ahead for it's arrival.

The rifle is chambered in .300 Weatherby Mag. I know it is a cartridge that not everyone is in love with, however, I have owned one before and enjoyed it. Also, I seem to have this "thing" for needing to have something that is a little different than the usual. There are plenty of .300's around these parts both in the Winchester and WSM platforms, a few ultras, and I know of one 300 Dakota. Very few Weatherbys.

Also, for whatever reason, this seems to be remington country. Winchester bolt guns are as scarce around here as Japanese Zeros.

I know that there must be someone on this board that has experience with this rifle, and maybe even one of these rifles chambered for the 300 weatherby. If so, I would like to hear about your experiences with the rifle.

If you have one of these rifles in another caliber, I would be happy to hear about that too.

Thanks

I have a stainless classic in 300 WBY. It's a nice gun that carries, handles and shoots well.

Just bought a Classic Laminated Model 70 in 325WSM. As soon as I shoot her, I will be posting my results.

Good luck with your auction,
Rob

Mine is 300 WinMag. I really like it. Shoots well.
Good Luck!

Mine is 30-06 flavor, but has been my primary hunting rifle for 13 years now with nary a hicccup. I've tried a lot of other things over the years, but this is my go-to rifle. (And due to an illness, college loans, etc. draining my cash, it is one of only two big game rifles that I have kept.)

I have one in .30-06 as well. Have been very satisfied with it. Have run about 600 rounds through it in load development and practice with no problems.

I handled one today that hasn't a mark on it, has Leupold one piece base and rings, cheap BSA scope, in .300 Wby, asking $470.00. You could get it for $400.00 if that auction falls through.

I reckon I won the auction. Shipping and all I will have 469.00 in the rifle. It doesn't have a scope, but does have what appears to be leupold rings and bases on it.

I am glad to hear that you guys like your Winchesters, and I am looking forward to getting mine. One thing that I was looking forward to is the CRF feature on the model 70 classic.

I have been perusing the Midway site looking for a bullet to work up a hunting load with. If all goes well I will be taking this rifle with me to look over a couple big open fields with this fall. I would like to find a 165 grain bullet that will work for me, but I don't know which route to take. I have even given thought to the Hornady 190 grain BTSP, but, still really can't say for sure what I will go with.

Congrats. I bought one for my father in-law about 6 years ago. he alway's wanted a 300 WBY and the price was right on a M70 SS. He love's it. I loaded him up some 180NBT at 300 WM velocity for him (didn't tell him) he only shoots to about 155yrds. He's killed a couple white tails with it and is tickled with how well it works.

YMMV

Mine might be even more rare than your 300 Wea. My 70 Classic is a factory 264 Win Mag, which I stumbled accross nearly ten years ago.

This rifle came from the factory with some really nice walnut. But unfortunately my 13 year old son allowed his 4-H horse to get tangled up with a fallen aspen sapling on an elk hunt the second year I owned the rifle. The 264 now wears a grey and black laminate stock from Midway with a Pachmeyer Decelerator pad.

I'd give the 168 grain Barnes TSX a look. Enjoy, John

My wife stumbled across one about 6 years ago in 264. Needless to say she bought it for me only thing i don't like is the BOSS system. That and the thing don't feed for shtt and i haven't taken the time to fix it. Been sittin in the gun cabinet for years now. I should probably get that fixed one of these day's.....

I have owned 2 rifles chambered for .264 Win mag, but never got around to shooting either one of them before I traded/sold them. It definitely fits into my idea of having someting different.

My money order went out this morning with a copy of my dealer's FFL. I hope to have it in my hot little balogna skinners by this time next week.

I flipped open the Nosler no. 5 manual to the 165 grain page. Lo and behold, 75 grains of IMR 4831 supposedly yields 3048 fps, and is the most accurate powder/charge combination. Since it is also the starting load for that powder, I will start there with whatever 165 or 168 projectile I load. In reality, that is more than enough velocity for me, and then if I ever get a chance to hunt Elk here in KY, I will look more toward the 200 grain partition. Muhahahahaha!
