So does liking "old school" Remington stocks qualilfy me a Remington slut?

An original "Varmint Special" in 22/250. It currently has a 6.5x20 Leupold on it and is a PD killer extraordinare.

223 Rem, my favorite cartridge - you can't argue with truckloads of dead PD's and gophers.

Ltppowell: I have been a Remington type of guy for a long long time now.
Not just 700's but 720's and 722's and 721's and 788's and 40X's also.
And when it comes to Remington 700's - I love'em!
But... its hard for the words "they are the best" to come out'a my mouth.
They are great and accurate and reliable Rifles - BUT - "the best" well again they are wonderful guns but maybe NOT the best?
I was just at my local range two days ago on a calm but warm morning and fired two different Remington 700's (both heavy barrels) and I could not have been happier with their performance.
And later this wekk I will be unlimbering my Remington 700 Sendero in caliber 270 Winchester - this Rifle is one of my main got to long range Mule Deer and Antelope Rifles.
I have not shot it since last fall and I would bet a fourty dollar bill that it will be "dead on" when I verify its P.O.I. later this week.
I have had this fine Rifle for only ten years now and it has served me extremely well over that time taking Coyote, Bull Elk, Mule Deer, Antelope and Whitetail Deer with it.
I fully expect to use this Rifle until I actually am called up to my Happy Hunting Ground!
I own MANY Remington 700's and they have all served me quite well.
Add me to your list of Remington 700 "lovers" for sure.
Long live the Remington 700 (already the best selling factory Hunting Rifle IN THE WORLD!).
Hold into the wind
VarmintGuy
P.S.: I had to go to my inventory and check - I currently own 30 (thirty) Remington 700's.
And thats NOT counting my Remington 722's, 721's, 788's, XR-100's or 40X's - let me repeat, I LOVE Remingtons!

Drover: Count me as an "old school slut" also.
I have a similar vintage Remington 700 BDL Varmint Special in caliber 222 Remington - my Rifle has a vintage Redfield 6x18 variable scope on it.
This Rifle has shot several groups (5 shots at 100 yards) in the 3's over the years.
When afield this Rifle is like magic, mortifying Varmints of all kinds and often out to 400 yards and a tad further on occassion.
I have semi-retired this Rifle as of a few years ago.
It has served me splendidly well for 30+ years now - so it has earned a rest.
Maybe one of the VarmintGrandsons will get it for Christmas one year or will have it inherited?
Its last Hunt was for Prairie Dogs and the 50 grain Sierra Blitz bullets simply seemed to be unable to miss on that Safari!
I wish I had five more Rifles just like it to tell the truth.
Alas the bean counting "Remingtonians" quit making this model and now have turned their back on this fine caliber (222) for whatever reasons I can not fathom!
If you ever want to sell your handsome 22-250 Varmint Rifle be sure to give me a shout out.

Several years ago, I bought my youngest son a used M700 ADL. It is one of those Wal-Mart specials with a laminate stock. It also came with a Nikon scope. All we did was a trigger job.

It is heavy but it has always shot when we asked, hasn't when we haven't, and the bolt hasn't fallen off (yet). This rifle shoots little cloverleaf groups with just about every factory load we have tried. Least fussy and one of the best shooting rifles in the house. Is that typical of all 700s? I don't know. I certainly wouldn't call it the best in the world but it gets the job done.

Nice rig, VG. I always wanted one just like it (well, maybe different scope) but by the time I was making enough money to be able to justify having one, Remington quit making them. I've been sort of half-heartedly searching GB/GA for one, but people are (perhaps justifiably so) proud of them.

I think they are the best!

I dig Remington's too. I have two. A 1982 Mountain Rifle in .308 Win and BDL DM SS in 7 STW. These two are my primary big game rifles. Taken a lot of deer with the MR since 1982. Even loaned it out to a friend of mine last fall. His 14 year old son took his first ever deer with it at 70 yards. Perfect heart and lung shot. DRT. The 7 STW has put a few elk and deer in the freezer too.

I'm the sort who likes to shoot only a couple of guns and be proficient with them. My Dad had a Remington Model 8 in .32 Remington that he used on hundreds of deer. He and his buddies used to go to WY and shoot about 50 mule deer at a time. This was back in the 60's.

That 82 Mountain Rifle a prototype? laugh

If Big Green would make the Deuce and 6mm again I would have 2 more 700s.

I've got 4 700's, a 1963 BDL 30-06, a 25-06 sendero, a 7mm/08 LSS, and a 223 ADL. They will all shoot under an inch with their favorite handload.

I use mostly 700's but I think I am going to cut my varmint .223 off about 4" and lighten it up a very little.

I have done trigger jobs on all of them but only a few have been bedded, for now.

I have two, a SPS in .25-06, and a XCR2 in .30-06. I like both of them, especially the XCR2, but they are by no means my most accurate factory rifles. I've only gotten the .25-06 down to around 1.5 to 1.75" groups, and have tried countless loads. The .30-06 is down to just over an inch, but I think that rifle has more potential to uncover. I've considered sending the .25-06 down the road, but I'm going to try a few more loads first...

Currently my main two hunting rifles are a 700 CDL in 25-06, and a 700 BDL ( 1973) in 30-06 Had a 375 H&H 700 CDL that I really regret selling. Used my 660 in 350 Rem Mag on a couple Alaskan hunts, and on a couple whitetails too. Love em all! Have my original 870 Wingmaster, bought new in 1966 for $89.95, and 2 other 870's to go along with it, a Competition Trap, and a 3" Mag. The 870, like the 700 is a time proven classic that's hard to beat!

plus 1 788 that doesn't really count.

Do I qualify?

How does the 725 compare to the 700, does anyone know? It is a beautiful gun imo.
