Have any of you tried the 110 grain TTSX in a .300 Weatherby? Other than scaring 4000 fps in a hunting rifle, I don't know what the benefit would be, but prior to my second cup of coffee this morning, it crossed my mind that it might be a fun experiment.

No help here, but I did shoot a bunch of 110 CnC bullets in a .300 Winchester years ago...it WAS phun!
I would think with the BC involved that it kinda defeats the longer range purpose application os such a cartridge....

Thanks, Ingwe. I was trying to get inside the minds of some of the Daniel Boone's around here who don't have the possibility of a shot past 300, but scoff at a standard cartridge as not having enough range to do the job. There are more 7mm rem mags and 300 magnums of every variety around here than you can shake a stick at.

Imagine the hole in the chest cavity on a 50 yard shot ... I hunt with 7-08 to 300 WBY (& several in between). Choices usually revolve around mood that day/week AND far less than than the requirements of the hunt .... but again, I think the 7-08 will do just about everything I want. But I do like the days afield with the 300

Interesting idea to ponder. Been thinking about same thing in Win Mag, and also trying 6.8 bullets in 270 Win. Used to think 3000fps had some magic karma. The stuff becoming available makes 4,000 realistic, amd I'm guessing 5,000fps is not out of the question. Some of Uncle Sams better stuff already exceeds this. Only concerns I can think of is barrel wear, or, fouling at an excessive rate. Credit my laziness with keeping me out of trouble with this idea just lately.

A friend of mine used 110 grainers in his .300 Win Mag for jackrabbits back in the 70s. I distinctly recall that his loading method was to pour a can of H4831 into a shoe box and scoop the cases through it to fill them to very top of the mouth. Shake to settle the powder a bit, seat the bullet and go make some red mist and with that load and the ranges we typically shot jacks, I do mean red mist.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

Odd...dats what I loaded mine up for too...jackrabbits...it would definitely beam them into deep space, widest angle of dispersion....

I swing way the other way with a 110 gr cast with gas check at 900 ft/ sec, but that was only an 06. Edible rabbits, grouse and usable beaver pelts. I also used 32cal in a 30/30 at 800 ft/sec for an 80gr. Way too much fun for the investment.

I've had similar musings about some of the 160gr TTSX's in my .340. There's a little bit of the "For the hell of it is it's own justification." but so far not enough to make me want to actually try it. I actually scratch my head a little bit about the 185gr pills in a .338. If you aren't over 200gr there seems little reason to be shooting a mid-bore at all, to my mind anyway.
Still, gotta imagine a 160gr .338 at over 3500fps would have plenty of "Splat!" factor.
If there's one thing I've become certain of it's that there's too much certainty in the world.

I use 130 grain TTSXs in my 300 Win Mag. They're very accurate and at about 3600 they get Bambi's attention. Never got one of them back. Don't expect to either. I can't really say that they're any better than an '06 at 3150 or so though. Holes look the same.

I believe it was Craig Boddington that hit 4000fps with a light weight barnes slug out of the .30 Lazzoroni case and was wacking pigs in the name of experimentation with impressive results. Also I recall something about the bullet being coated in NPs from Robar but dont quote me on that.

In a similar vein , I've been running the Nosler 125 in my 300RUM at 3800-3900.
Makes a 2 pc. out of a yote!
I only did it because I picked up a new 300RUM savage takeoff brl. for $40 and figured "what the heck!"
Ballistically it gives a 'hair hold ' out to past 400 [440 IIRC] on a yote.... nothing to sneeze at !
.... now where are those 110's that are squirreled away?? hmmmm

I'd do it and love it. But then I shoot 100 grain Ballistic Tips at antelope outta my .264 at 3700
