I have a box of 22 HP Western center fire cartridges they are 70 gr. I bought them some time ago to have a box of original cartridges for my 22HP. I am thinking of taking them to the range to see how well my 22 HP will shoot with some original loaded shells. are they too collectable to shoot . they are quite old the price on the box is $3.55
What to do??

I would hazard a guess that they are far too valuable to shoot, if the box is complete and in nice condition. If it were a partial ratty box I would probably conduct that experiment with them.

This is a picture of them there is one of the little tabs missing on the end of the box. otherwise they are in like new condition. I would sell them if I diden't have to travel 20 miles one way to a ups shipping depot.

Given the price of gas combined with what UPS charges to ship ammunition... this would not be a favorable financial deal for you. A member here kindly shipped me the .50/70 shot cartridge I needed. It cost him $20 to ship it - and that's with no extra insurance! He did tell them what was in the package and that had a substantial bearing on the cost.

Sound effect: a drum going "badump!"
Now that I see them, I would save them. That's a nice box. But, God knows I've shot away a lot of ammo in my life that would now be considered "collectible".

Hubert, I agree with Gary. It's really great to have some original shells for your original rifle. When you decide to hang it up, the box of shells will go nicely with it and make the combination that much more valuable. Buena Suerte, Lauro Garza Texas
