I recently purchased a Rem 700 LVSF 22-250 for coyote hunting. Since I do not reload what 50gr or 55gr (I don't know if I will be to shoot 55gr due to 1 in 14 twist) would be a good coyote bullet? I am going to stay away from the V-Maxs,I see HSM sells 50 or 55gr Trophy Gold Varmint HP Flatbase ammo,has anyone used it on coyotes. What other options do I have. Thanks Tom

My friend doesn't reload and all he shoots coyotes with is the winchester 45gr Hollow Points, and I will say that after seeing him shoot dozens with this load, it is very deadly. They seem on the light side for bullet weight, but they absolutely tear them up! Shots range from close to far and running to standing and they all generally go down hard. I wish I could find some of these bullets, but winchester doesn't sell them as components. T.S.

+1 on the Win White Box 45gr. My hunting partner uses them and they work very good.

55 grain bullets and a 1-14" ROT have been an industry standard for over 40 years, so I wouldn't worry too much. My 700 parts gun with a 22-250 LVSF barrel shoots 55 grain Winchester/Olin factory loads and 60 grain BT reloads just fine. It also shoots the 45 grain JHP Winchester/Olin U.S.A Rifle 40 count white box ammo fine too, but those bullets are really fragile, or so it seems to me, so you might not want to use them if you're looking to keep the pelts from the coyotes you shoot with them.

I only shoot V-Maxs, mine likes them, but my next choice would b 55gr HPs.

When you start shooting your new gun pay attention to the location of the groups. My LVSF would shoot a good group then another good group but the groups were not in the same place (yes I was using the same load). What I discovered was the soft synthetic stock would put random pressure points on the barrel changing the point of impact. I switched the stock out with a laminate and it made a huge difference in repeatability.

I couldn't get my 700 LVSF .22-250 to shoot good 'til I pulled out the dremel and a big ass grinder bit and hogged out serious plastic.

It was the fussiest gun I think I ever eventually achieved success with, but with the 2 recipes I found that it like, it was crazy-accurate. Most loads were 2-1/2 MOA or worse. The two it liked (varied only by bullet) were quarter inch. Some things just make ya say "WTF?" ... but ... how many different successes do you need? 1, maybe?
