I shoot a 300 Remington Ultra Mag for whitetail and mule deer. I have been shooting Federal Premium 180 Grain Barnes Triple Shock. I have been doing some research and a lot of people are recomending the Remington Scirocco 150 grain Bonded PL3. The thought is is it faster, flatter and better all around ballistics. I was wondering if anyone has any insight on this. Thanks for your help.

I don't like lighter bullets in the 300 rum I would go 180's or 200's they perform much better at close range and long range. I wouldn't even consider 150's

I have owned three 300 RUM's and none of them liked 150 grain bullets. I never shot factory loads only handloads.

I shoot a 300 RUM. I reload and my favorite bullet is the 200 grain Nosler accubond, flies true and hold up well. I would stay away from the 150 grain bullets for the RUM, just think Ballistic Coefficient.

I've loaded for and shot a .300 RUM for 11 years now, and I also like the heavier bullets. The 200 gr Accubond works really well. mtmuley

My 300rum didnt like the 180gr partitions (the lightest bullet I've tried). It sure shines with 200gr accubonds and 210gr A-max's.

I'd go with this. I found that the msot accurate bullet I tried in 3 rifles were all bonded. 165gn and 180gn Woodleigh's and 200 gn Accubonds. The later, will suffice for anything you would use a 300 RUM. Try 94gn of Retumbo for about 3180fps and usually .5 MOA groups if the rifle is set up ok.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. Is there a reason the Accubond is preferred over the Barnes Triple Shock?

I'm not sure the Accubond is really preferred over the Barnes. When the 200 gr Accubond came out, it seemed just what I was looking for. Barnes didn't make the 200 gr TTSX yet, or I may have tried it. But, after all the years and all the dead critters, I have no reason to try the Barnes. I don't think either would be a bad choice, but I KNOW the Accubond works. mtmuley

put me in the 200 AB crowd as well.

Now the ballistics are just fine (in fact superior) with the 150's out to 400 yards or so, but after that, the big bullets with higher BC's really start to shine.

I prefer the AB's over the barnes for cost and accuracy.

I've heard than many 300 RUM's either like the 165's and 200's OR they like the 180's. My gun shoots the 200 AB's into 1/4 MOA at 100, so I've never seen the need to try any other bullet.

I've used this exact bullet on mule deer after a friends recomendation. For deer it's an amazing combo. Unless you were planning on extreme long range shooting where a better BC bullet was needed I would give it a try.

IMHO the big RUM case was just made for a heavy high BC bullet like the accubond. I cant bring myself to load any bullet with groves for long range. If Barnes made a 200gr TTSX without the groves, I'd give it a try.

I agree, and that's the reason I bought the 300 RUM in the first place.

The 150 is a performer however.

I'm playing with the 200 gr AB for elk, but unless it amazes me I'll stick with the 150 for deer. It's performed very well for me up to 600 yards at the range.

I have never had good luck with the 200 AB in my RUM, for whatever reason.
On the other hand, it shoots 200gr NP's very well indeed.
Only bullet I use in mine nowadays.

I just got done from having a great time out at the range today with my 300 RUM shooting 180s and shooting my new-to-me 7WSM at the range for the first time. Love that sound when bullets hit steel.

I really like the 300 RUM. Yeah, the recoil is a bit stiff, but I just love what it does with 200gr bullets @3200 fps.
cool

Steel is fun. Most of this is with my 300RUM/200gr accubonds and some 7rem mag/160gr accubonds. Turn up the sound.

I also use the 200gr accubond in my rum and they fly right at 3170 fps. I am playing with 208 amax right now. Not set on a load yet though.
