I'm headed to Wyo for an antelope hunt next week and will be taking my .257 Wby as well.

Just curious, how do you have yours sighted-in? I have mine dead-on at 300yds and 8" low at 400. Will be shooting at 500 later this week.

Also taking my Tikka .25-06 thats dead-on at 250 yds with 120gr Fusions.

Thx,
Chris

Very interesting question- We had this same discussion before and after the hunt. I'll let him expound. He does it differently than I do.

In his case, he just twisted turrets to the correct MOA adjustment and held on.

Clattlin,

I use leupolds with turrets. I chose to have the 257 Roy set up so it hits 3" high at 100. I then print out a come up page for the turret and go to a range where I shoot at a steel 300m javelina and a 500M ram. I paint the steel so it is easy to see the hits. I verify that the predicted comeup matches the performance. All the shooting was setup on the JBM for the conditions of the range.

I then tweak the program for the elevation and other conditions where I will hunt. I try to choose an approx temperature. I then make final trajectory charts. I make one trajectory chart without use of the turret. It is printed on a pc of laminated paper and taped on one side of my rangefinder. Then I laminate a second chart for comeups past the trajectory for the longer shots that require the use of the elevation turret.

This hunt the bullet was 3" high at 100 and useful trajectory was 450 yds were it is 6" low.(5300 ft elevation) This buck was ranged at 560 yds. 550 yds is 2.9 MOA comeup and 575 is 3.3 MOA so I chose 3 MOA and shot.

I hope that helps.

I don't have any other pics that show the head by itself that are any good. The prongs were small (one was rubbed off) and the horns were around 14-14 1/2".

Ross and Dennis, congrats on a successful hunt! The antelope should be some fine eating and a nice mount. Where did the VLD hit the buck to cause that massive Stevie Wonder bloodtrail?

Nicely done fellas.

Ross, I was at PPC the other day verifying my 257 wby and 100 ttsx load before my new Mexico antelope hunt in one week. I'm really excited.
