Nice photo---------looks like the tent was about to get tested.

Nice photo---------looks like the tent was about to get tested. Got it up just in time to take cover from a 15 minute shower. Ended up being good timing and a decent place to spend the night.

I can't wait to some winter camping in our new 8 man I am really liking the "San Juan Silver" as I'm calling it. Currently, barely over 6 lbs, all inclusive. Other than that, it depends on situation. If I'm going someplace and light is more important than shelter I use a tarp. I'll use the tarp when space is of concern as well. If I'm going with another person, I usually take a 3 man tipi. For the family, it's usually been a 6 person in Taupe. I imagine though, the 8 will get a lot of usage as well.

Unlike a lot of folks here in the backpacking forum, I much prefer my synthetic bag rated at 20 degrees and I have yet to get cold in it. I wear a pair of merino wool tops and bottoms and I stay warm and dry in my bag. Just recently bought a Marmot Limelight 3 tent, used it a few days last week and will be using it again in the next 10 days or so. Am thinking the Limelight 2 will do right by you.
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

I used a limelight 2 for several years, not a bad tent at all. My only beef was that it was a bit heavy...

I just checked up on the old Cabela's tent I mentioned back on page 2. It's called a North Star Bivy and it's discontinued. It's got excellent floor space but a real low ceiling. The floor is about 9 feet long, pointed at each end, and I'd say 30 inches wide or wider. My shoulder and hip both hit the ceiling when I rolled over if I lifted myself a little to keep from pushing my sleeping bag (unzipped) off the 1" thermarest pad.
I think its a pretty ideal bug bivy .. maybe a little heavy .. but I'd hate to use it in the rain. Getting in and out I think you'd get your gear pretty wet. It'd work better with an overhead tarp if it's really raining.

Have had several, got rid of most of them. A favorite was the Cabela's Outback Lodge, gave it to one of my sons. Currently have Cabela's Alaknak II, really like it, looks like a keeper. Also have an REI light weight backpacking tent, don't remember the model name, love it.
