We've had all the "Just One Rifle" threads, but I've been pondering this about scopes.
Could you scope all of your different rifles with the exact same brand, model, and size of scope, and still be happy, effective at harvesting game, meet your accuracy standards at the range, etc?
I have a favorite scope, with which I'm so comfortable, that I'm thinking I could put it on everything from my .22 to my Whelen, & be perfectly content. Kind of like Albert Einstein wearing the same kind of clothes every day.
Does anyone else feel that way, or does this only cement my status as the resident oddball?

There's a few I'd be happy with. Leup 2.5-8, 3.5-10.... but for ANY rifle I prefer the Conquest 3-9's. Leupold eye relief is a bit short for me at full power settings on long-action rifles. Workable, but not ideal.
So my ONE SCOPE would be a 3-9x40 Conquest. Helps that they are fargin' cheap fir what you get, too.
The CENTER will hold.

After getting mine and fiddling with it for the past couple of months, I can understand why. It's a super hunting scope.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

For me it would be a Leupold 6x36.Love that scope. For deer in thick timber? Done it more than once...no problems.I've even made a few running shots, again with no problems.

Pure hunting scope?
Have to say Leupold 6x if I could only have one. However, I would like a couple with different reticles.

Zeiss Victory Varipoint 2.5-10x42T. #8
Low enough power for close and low light conditions. 1st focal plane reticle. Inner etched reticle fine enough for precision shooting. 30mm tube. 42mm objective allows low mounting. Top end lenses and coatings.

it has all the bells and whistles i could ask for in a scope
3 more of them just like it would be nice but it'll never happen

I do to many adjustments in the field to rely on something like a Leupold unless it's the Mark IV, and then I don't want to deal with all of the issues with canted reticles they have, nor do I want to spend that much where there are so many better options for the price. Not to hard to tell those who shoot alot, from them that dont..... dave

I have a honest question John, your scope I think is 4.5 at low power. You like it even at close range on moving game as your pretty used to it and familiar with it. Would you argue that its better than a 2x at close range running animals? I ask this because I have folks I know that hunt with L 4.5x14 or more powerful scopes and seem to kill the same deer in the same woods that I do, (don't know about running shots however). I seem to prefer lower power scopes for the woods I hunt in, and I can shoot decent groups with 4X at 100 yards, but have always wanted to try a higher power scope. What is your take on fast shots at close range with a 4X scope?
