Rory,
All ya really need is an empty .50 cal can and a half gallon of mineral spirits. Dump the spirits in the can then take the wood off the 99 and stick the receiver in the can. Slosh and shake until all the crud is out. Let dry, lube as needed and replace the wood.

Well, I hit it with boiling water and it looks like it worked very well. Followed up with some canned air to force as much water out as possible, plus some quality time sitting in front of a fan. Now a quick, light lube of moving parts and back together it goes.

How about while it's all loose just use an air compressor and blast the crap out? Open the lever and give it hell though the top?
