Does anyone know where I can get an idea of the value of a P.O. ACKLEY 3X9 scope? I was given a Remington 700 30.06 for replacing a front door on a house & it has this scope on it. I know who Mr. Ackley was, but wasn't aware he had scopes under his name as well. I'm not interested in keeping the scope, I have other plans for this rifle, but I want to find out a little more before I part with it. Thanks for any help.

According to "Stroebel" Mr Ackley did design and manufacture a scope and mount in 1955. It was a 4X straight 7/8 in. tube with external adjustments .A rare scope .value $300 with an additional $150 for the mount at time of printing of Stroebel`s book.Probably a bit more today.
The scope that you have described is more than likely of Japanese manufacture and has the name of P.O.Ackley stamped on it.It is likely that this was produced during the same time that Mr.Ackley was associated with an international company named Emdeko. He sold out his barrel business to them and was retained to oversee the production by Emdeko of the barrels.Thousands of rifles were made in popular sporting calibers using the Mark X Interarms action and aftermarket stocks such as Bishop.
The value of the scope you have other than P.O`s name being stamped on it would not be any more than the slew of other Jap scopes produced during the 70`s.

Slightly off topic but I saw an Interarms Mark X .30-06 with
PO Ackley stamped on the barrel awhile back. Almost bought it
but didnt if it would have been a 22-250 or a 257Roberts I would have.

Jericho, not real sure what you mean here. It was probably a 30.06AI (Ackley Improved). I'm not following where the 22-250 and 257 is coming in at.

$300 is probably a good value, except only ot a scope collector or Ackley fan. As for me, I'd find it interesting, but would not pay $300 for it. Search out scope and sight collectors, firearms collectors, etc. on the internet for some leads if you want to sell it.

A friend has a pair of PO Ackley barreled Mark X Mausers in .300 Win Mag and 7mm Rem Mag. I am assuming he did the stock work as well. Anyone out there know how common these are, production numbers etc.?

Sorry RM,
The rifle was a standard 30-06 not an AI, the barrel was
made by PO Ackley, or possible the complete rifle built
in his shop. If it would have been a standard 257R or
22-250 I would have bought it.
