Love the JetBoil.

Once I decided that my trail meals were never going to involve frying, it just made perfect sense.

There's lighter ways to boil water, but the convenience is a worthwhile trade.

Jetboil at 10,000 feet in the AB. A "quick cup" sure takes the edge off up there....

I'll have to pick up the new and improved model...

I've never read about a Jetboil failure. 10,000 feet is a challenging elevation.

Welcome back Steven!

I've got the newer JB Flash which at first I thought was a gram stealing gimic (sorta is) but I've found that I AM now a slave to the color change, as the water is just the right temp for coffee and I don't have to peek under the lid to monitor the bubbles. If I ever lose my JB I might replace it with the newer model with the regulator, but I appreciate the extra capacity of the larger pot, so the grass doesn't seem that much greener over there. smile

I've had several jetboil failures. At high elevations mine sputtered quite a bit, and the piezo igniter sucks. You have to carry a lighter just in case. I'll be buying and trying the SOL- we'll see how that goes. Despite it's faults, it's still my favorite stove, by far.

my buddy bought the PCS instead of the flash and he had a problem with it and returned it. never a problem from my flash unit. with a jetboil its the whole system that works together to make it way better than a super light stove and a pot. in the past we use pocket rockets and Ti pots to make mountain house meals for 3 guys, it always took way too long and was a hassle. the jet boil has that cover that fits on the outside, which means you can grab the thing with your bare hands and pour it. it also insulated it. the rubberish cover on top keeps the wind from sapping the heat from the water. and also makes it easy to pour. in the end the hassle is way way less and I have mountain house ready for all 3 of us in less than half the time as a pocket rocket and a Ti pot. yeah its heavier but I will deal with that every day of the week, push a button and the thing is lit, I would not use anything else.

All,

just returned from 10 days in the Talkeetna Mts, Alaska. I had the jetboil SOL and my pard had the older version. The new stove is about twice as fast, boiling cold 40 degree or colder water in about two minutes. Both stoves however were excellent. We also had the Jetboil frying pan and we put it to good use almost every time we came to a stream frying up Dolly Varden trout that were just eager to jump on most anything. The frying pan is a little small but worked perfectly, but noticabley better on the SOL which couuld be turned down and stay lit even in the wind. The trout were a great break from 10 days of Mountain House freeze dried. As soon as I get unpacked will post some pictures.

I had my old one well over 10,000 ft last year in the Raywah Wilderness at temperatures below 20F. Never a issues worked fine including the piezo. Maybe you just got a bad one. I bet if you called they would replace it.
