I am going to purchase my first chronograph and am on a pretty tight budget. I dont need a remote or printer. just a simple to use Chrony to figure out my loads with. Anyone have any suggestions as to a brand/model that will fit the bill? Thanks,
Stewart

Hey stewart, this one from midway is simple and cheap (its on sale) and gets great reviews. I've got a very old one made by the same company and it serves me well. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=852429
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

This is the one I use. Shooting Chrony F1 Chronograph $84.99 It looks like they have improved it with rounded diffusers.
If I'm wrong, I'll admit it. If I don't reply further, I'm satisfied with my side of the "debate." ...nuff said.

have had a shooting chrony, an Oehler, and a prochrono. The prochrono seems to work just as good as my Oehler did and for a lot less money. I wasn't satisfied at all with the SC.

Pro Chrono Digital... BSA's post about Midway selling them for $99 is a good deal. I really like mine, no troubles with it. BD

What ever dont waste your money on a pact. Besides a crappy product they have the worst customer service and verry rude people to talk to.

Shooting Chrony. Get one with the remote readout. Several advantages including that if you have a shooting mishap, it is far cheaper to replace the downrange unit than when all the electronics are in the downrange part.
Plus there is no downrange display, which can be damaged by muzzle blast. (I've read where some folks put clear plastic blast shields on the front of their one-piece chrony to avoid such damage.)
A remote also allows you to reset the chrono after 30 shots (the max for the cheaper units). When sharing the range that means no need to call a ceasefire to walk downrange and cycle power on the chrony.
Been using mine for about 10 years now.

Another vote for the prochrono digital. You seem to see a lot fewer negative posts about them than the shooting chrony. I and and a couple of friends have them, they've all worked great.
