Not deer, but dropped a couple of elk (cow and a bull) with a .308 in the past two years, one at 230 yards and the other at about 100. Was sitting next to a buddy last year when he dropped a big bull with one as well, 225 yards...all with my hand loads. kilt 'em dead.

Did all my hunting with a .308 for years. Bought and sold more than a few, but always have had one in the safe. Have gone to the .260 for deer and coyotes now, but the .308 will still see moose and bear action.
Funny I always used 180,s in it for everything, now use 165's for moose.

Savage 16 SS/syn Redfield 3X9X40mm that I picked up about this time last year.
Ive tested several factory loads, the ones I like best are listed below. I will on ocassion shoot the premimums but honestly the bottom shelf cartrages shoot well enough to my liking and needs. I cant justify the added cost of the Premimums.
Fed fusion 165gr Hornady 150 SST Win power pt 150s
Im comfortable out to about 300yds at the range and would have no problem trasfering that to the field. Last year I took to does on land owner permit both right around 60yds.

My deer rifle is a .308
Use it for KY whenever I get a chance. I thought you knew better than to say "KY" in front (or back) of Ingwe...

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

ususally run factory stuff out of it. Federal Fusions shoot the best.

Savage 16 weather warrior, Burris fulfield II in 308 took a 4 point last year at 170 yards. The 308 has to be my favorite, what's not to like? Power, low recoil and accurate!!!

While I do not own one anymore (it became a 250 AI) mine was deadly on blacktail and mule deer with the 165 gr Hornady FB.

Never had one until a couple of years ago. I've had numerous other cartridges but for some reason never had a 308. Well I got a wild hair about finding a nice low cost rifle for a loaner/knock about rifle in a good all-rpund cartridge and found a stevens 200 in 308. I bought it added a 3-9x40 scope and it is a super little rifle. I have only shot one deer with it to date but a quartering away shot at about 200yds with a 165 gr hornady and it's legs just folded up. I am very impressed with the little rifle and think you would be hard pressed to find a better general all purpose cartridge for 90% of N. American game.
