It doesn't matter which version you use, it's hidden from the wise and revealed to the elect. Revelation is in the reader, not the written word.

"In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight."

Actually, John 3:16 is half of a statement. The complete statement is John 3:16-17.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

Agreed, in spades. My left arm tattoo only has vs 16, one of my good buds, also a BIG guy, has vs 17 in its entirety tatoo'ed on his right forearm. I am sensing a real need t go and re-see my Tat artist! (also a believer, BTW) After that one, plan and hope to get Collosians 2, 14-15 in entirety on one forearm or the other.

WOW! What a cool sight! Saved it in my favorites right next to my Bible concordance site. Thanks a bunch. MARK

PS own a 4 version parralel bible as well as direct translations that have the origial greek and hebrew words below each word in the Bible. Both come in REALLY handy when JW's or Mormons are invited in! smile

Perhaps you could get him to do Leviticus 19:28 while you're at it.

No need for that one, read Coll. 2-14 and 15. The OT Law is dead to me/us (Believers). Wouldn't waste good skin space for a null and void for us believers law.

I DO have old Testamnet on my Right shoulder / arm. Pictoral and reference for Gen 3:15, first prophecy of Christ, given by God himself. LOVE it!

It is only hearsay by his followers and repeated over and over until It dosen't make any sense anymore,

Do you accept other documents from antiquity? Upon what athourity do you accept them? How long from the time the actions happened and the manuscripts were written? How many manuscripts are there to support these events?

Did you know there is a thousand times more manuscript evedence for the New Testament, going clear back to within forty years of Jesus' resurection, than any other ancient literature? If you did some research about Luke, you would discover he is considered by secular historians to be a very careful historian. Consider the following:

"In as much as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplihed among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the Word have handed them down to us, it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excelent Theophilus; so that you might know the exact truth about the things you have been taught." Luke 1:1-4

Luke continues his work.

"The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when He was taken up, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen. To these He also presented Himself alive, after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, apppearing to them over forty day and speaking of the things concerning the Kingdom of God. And gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the the Father had promised, 'Which you heard of from Me; for John baptized with wather, but you shall be bapized with the Holy Spirit mot many days from now.'

"And so when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, "Lord, is it at this time Your are restroing the Kingdom to Israel?'. He said to the, 'It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His Own authority; but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalm, and in all Judea, and Samaria and even to the remotest part to the earth.'" Acts 1:1-8

If you read the Rest of Luke, you will discover he was an eyewitness.

"What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we beheld and our hands handled, concering the Word of Life-- and the life was manifiested, and we have seen and bear witness and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father was manifested to us-- what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, that you also may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write, so that our joy may be made complete." John 1:1-4

Does this sound like an eyewitness?

"Therefore, I exhort the elders amony you, as fellow-elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed*," 1 Peter 5:1

*"And six days later Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and brought them up to a high mountain by themselves. And He was tranfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light." Matthew 17:1-2

"And I consider it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, knowing that the laying aside of my body is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Crist has made clear to me. And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departuyre you may be able to call these things to mind. For we did not follow cleaverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming or our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyiewitness of His majesty." 2 Peter 1:13-16

From These Few an objective person can see the writers were eyewitnesses of history being made.

And lets not forget archelogists like Nelson Gulick, Wiliam Albright, Clifford Wilson and others who maintain the Bible is very accuratly recorded. In the case of the New Testament Albirght says it was completely finished by the year 70AD. Consider John 5 where It mentions the pool called Bethesda that was intact at the time of the writing and yet was destroyed in 70AD.

So for you the Bible is a cafeteria plan?

Matthew 5:17 says you are wrong.

Swampman700,

Did you know when God created man He told them to eat polants only. After the world wide flood God told them they could eat anything alive. Then the Law came and excluded several animals and bugs and birds. Later along comes Jesus and he says, "All foods are clean."

If you are keeping up with this thought you reaslize there are times when God wants us to do certain things. If you read Romans and Galatians you will discover the Law is history. It was a tutor to lead us to Christ. God's Word tells us Christ is the end of the Law.

Hopefully the OP got his questions answered before the train left the tracks. I for one, further confirmed that the NASB was the correct choice for me-------accuracy taking priority to all other considerations------althought it's eminently readable too. I also learned that Swampywater IS truly beyond help, and to be pitied. Time to move on to threads about expensive gear I don't really need.......... grin

Here we see the earthly head of the Church and her daughters and what will happen to them.

"3Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 6And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness"

words written by men into gospels, then culled by Constantine to get rid of those that did not support his point of view, and the remaining words now interpreted by other men. The chain is flawed, the real church is in the pews, the community of good people doing Gods work. Jesus would not identify with a single christian religion that exists today, as we have on the one hand a poor man, with no home, his only possessions the sandals on his feet and the clothes on his back, walking the earth and preaching forgiveness and inclusion for all, and on the other hand pomp, circumstance, condemnation, laws rules and regulations not to mention mega money and mega ego's.

Jesus isn't coming back to take sides. He's coming back to take over.

BTW - Christianity is not a religion. In a religion, one must "do" something to obtain a reward.

in my view, and i could be wrong, he will institute True Christianity which is otherwise described as True Communism.

not state Communism like found in Cuba, Russia, Red China or North Korea, etc. etc., but True Communism.

picking corn out of a neighbors patch on Sunday if necessary will be found to be Ok.

but, that's after God has descended upon the Earth, and took over the Ownership of His domain. am i wrong? wink

OK. I use a Dake KJV. I like the Dake for all the good references and information about the text that can be very illuminating. However, I don't always agree with Finas Dake's conclusions, fwiw. I often read it in conjunction with my Biblesoft Professional Reference Library, version 5. Using the Bible software, I can have multiple versions (with choices of over 30) open at the same time and drive down to the Hebrew or Greek with a click or two or check out a commentary on a passage. There is so much in the software and much I haven't even opened yet, but the cross-reference called the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge is my favorite study tool and gets a lot of use.

As I tried to allude to earlier, the most important thing is to read it and pray about what you read.
