For sentimental reasons, I'd like to say I'd keep the Les Baer .45 auto.

But for all practical purposes......for self defense, I'd choose my Glock 34 9mm with a packful of 19-rd +2 mags. 9mm ammo would be much easier to find in a pinch.

+1. Could also add durability, reliability, accuracy, compact, lightweight, optional firepower (33 rd magazine available. 1st choice for defense.)
For practical survival: Ruger 22/45 stainless 5" bull barrel.
and a couple dozen bricks of HV ammo.

Once upon a time I went to Gunsite and learned combat handgunnery at Jeff Cooper's knee. It matters naught what the gun is, I still have the "how to" operate program in my head...jim

I like My old Ed Brown 1911, but my one and only would be my everyday carry gun, a Glock 30 .45 ACP.

A lesson a couple of years ago taught me that a gun a few feet away (under the drivers seat) does no good when you can't reach it (putting gas in the tank).

Can't tell you how frustrating it was to have a 629 4" locked in my glovebox while the key was in my ignition one morning! Things finally turned when I was able to have the opportunity to unlock it....the anxiety dropped and lucky for the punk, the hammer did not smile

No doubt about it, IF you are wanting a tool for defense, it's best to keep it accessible and/or on person. Anything less can be costly.

Oh, why did I have it locked up? Was less wise then, worried about someone breaking into my car and stealing it. I learned.

Preach it, brother.

I get asked often if I'm paranoid. I'm not. I'm cautious, and I'm armed.

Them are different things, as we said in rural Ohio in my youth.

Man I love those Smith N-frames. So beautiful and so well-made. These two are real beauties! Wish I still had my 6-inch M25. frown

Handled one recently. That really is a beautiful piece. Like the strap checkering.
