I've got a hankering for a Ruger SP101 w/ 3" barrel. The .357 Mag. version does not have an adjustable rear sight, but the .327 Mag. version does.
So, let's hear some opinions on the .327 Mag. cartridge.

CCW or plinking, trail gun, fun stuff?

The reason I ask--I posed a question on the .327 and got a few answers. Might be interesting for you to read over.

.327 Mag?

I'm envisioning a trail/plinking and sometimes CCW gun.
Thanks for the link - I'll check it out.

I think a gun chambered for 327 Federal would make a great trail / hiking / plinking gun. With a power range from standard 32 S&W up to the full power 327 it seems to me like a lot of fun and versiltility. As I have stated before, I'm waiting for a 4" SP101 with fully adjustable sights.

Ernie, I just found out that Charter Arms makes a 4" .327 w/ adjustable sights - take a look at it: http://www.charterfirearms.com/products/Charter_Patriot_73274.html

Only 23 oz. too!

Charter seems to have pulled the listing of the Patriot off their lineup. Maybe people who are interested in it should buy while they can; I bet they're not producing them any more.

That's sad; it was the only .327 mag revolver with a barrel long enough to legally hunt in my state, unless you count the Ruger GP100, which weighs too much for my taste.

I too am curious about the round; it seems to me you could load it with .32 for small game, then use magnums as self-defense loads.

Had bad experience with 2 of the CA Patriots, one a customers and a friend. The friends went back twice and he traded it off without shooting it again the second time.

Thanks, T Lee. About 75% of the people that I've mentioned the CA Patriot to told me to steer clear. I think I'm gonna pass on it, then.

Out of the box they forgot to cut the forcing cone, when it came back the ejector rod would not go full stroke and jammed, when it came back the second time the ejector worked and it had a forcing cone so he traded it for a GP 100 in .327.

The other one shaved lead so bad a guy 2 stations down complained, it also had no forcing cone and was out of time, never heard from that guy again after it came back.

Sounds about like a S&W 317 AirLite that I recently traded.

I had seen the Charter Arms listed but I want the 327 to be in a gun I will actually like.

I was fondling a Ruger Blackhawk in .327 Federal. Seems like it would be an ideal trapline gun with cast boolits and not too shabby of a people eater with appropriate defensive loads in a DA revolver.

Now that's a good way of putting it.

I was just thinking that would be a great trail gun in the Ruger S/A. The Blackhawk is fine but I rather like the slicker lines of the Vaquero, maybe some day.

Never had one of the 327's. Have many other 357's and bigger. I think they would be a great packing pistola and just right for the occasional deer, hog, coyote, etc you may happen upon.

Id love to have a full lug Smith about 4" with fiber optic front sight, fluted cylinder, and comp. grips.
