Whats with blue tape on rifle barrels? I have seen lots of pix with taped barrels since I have been on this site. Someone please explain the reason....

Blue makes the bullet go faster and gives game a fair chance because they can see it. For experts only

Keeps dirt out of your barrel without effecting accuracy, plus it looks good! ddj

WRONG! Blue tape is proof positive of the user's homosexuality. Black tape is the one you want. FC

Ok. I have not seen it at all out here. So, the rings of blue tape on the barrel, 6in down from the muzzle is there "just in case"? I got it.
I was waiting for someone to say that it balanced out the harmonics or some silly schitt like that.
I am now edu-ma-ca-ted!

The tape over the muzzle keeps crap out. The extra wraps behind the muzzle is so you don't split the barrel when it does

Paying attention to where your muzzle is also keeps crap out...and looks a lot better.

The blue tape simply keeps things in proper harmonic balance with the predominant levels of blue light penetrating and bouncing back down from our atmosphere. Be sure the tape is wound in the same direction as ones rifling. Counter winding will take 200 fps off of ones muzzle velocity.
One can go with gray on cloudy days (the most used color here in western Oregon and Washington), and black if one is allowed to hunt at night. Anything else simply goes against nature.

Blue tape has the following advantages:
1. Sticks better than electricians tape 2. Adds 200fps to bullet velocity 3. Cuts group size in half 4. Makes the hunter invisible to game 5. Looks better than tan tape...

Its all about keeping your barrel an "exit only" tube...much like the way God intended our A-holes to be. As for the barrels..I keep a few Asian Midget condoms on hand for just this reason. They fit REALLY snug to the barrel, don't "come off" and are ribbed for your barrels pleasure.
