Thanks

I bought a pair of the Swarovision 8.5x42's but couldn't get over the rolling ball effect. Do the 12x50's have the rolling ball effect as well?

I compared the 12x50 EL's to the 15x56 SLC's and the Vortex 15x56 binos at Bass Pro Shop (BPS) in Denver last weekend. They have no optics resolution chart (sales guy told me they had to take the one they had up down because it was not an official BPS item!) From their optics counter, looking toward the front door there is a very dark corner with a couple of mounted mule deer heads hanging there. I was more or less ready to buy the SLC's until I looked through the EL's. They were SIGNIFICANTLY brighter and the magnification difference of 3x did not really seem to make much difference. Now, I realize the 12x50's have larger exit pupil -- but the difference was pretty astounding. Made me rethink my plans for the 15x56. Of course they are about $800 more than the 15x56's. I did not notice the rolling ball effect, but I was only using them for about 15 minutes and I understand that some people see it more than others.

I also meant to say that, to me, the difference between the brightness of the Vortex 15x56 and the 15x56 SLC's seemed to be about the same as the difference between the SLC's and the 12x50 EL's. Through the Vortex glasses I initially thought the heads on the far wall were paintings on the wall. With the SLC's I realized they were heads and through the EL's I could really study them.

Don't be worried about the rolling ball effect in the SV. Some may see it and it may bother them, and may have to pass them by. I have the 8.5x42 SV, and have yet to see RB at all. I don't believe most users will even see it, or if they do, they will quickly become used to it and then just enjoy the great view.

Problem is, some folks do see the RB. I did, and wouldn't own a SV EL because of it.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

I got them and they are awesome. I don't notice any rolling ball effect at all. I can't wait to use them while hunting.
