Hi Guys, I am looking to put a scope on a Savage 99F I am getting and was thinking about a lower power variable or a fixed power scope. Are there any straight tube variables out there besides a Leupold VXIII that have a gloss black finish, nice scope but pricey? I have a Burris Fullfield II 1.75 X 5 that I like a lot but it is only available in a matte finish. I don't want one of the new Weaver K anything's because I had a K 2.5 that came unglued twice on a 44 mag rifle. I am looking for something in a gloss black finish that would go well with this rifle. Your comments would be appreciated!!

I have a Burris FF2 1.75-5x in black gloss on my 7mm-08 Winchester M-70 Compact. Love it.
Burris was making a glossing 4x40 FF2. Swift makes a glossy black 4x for under $100.00 that is nice.
Get an old blue steel tube Weaver 4x for that Savage 99, like God intended it to be rigged.

Have you held a matte finish scope next to your rifle? You may even try different brands too. It may look much better than you think. If you decide you like the way they look together you will have many more options.

Wiktor, I have an old steel Weaver K 2.5 on my Savage '99E I also have one on my Springfield Krag with a dent in it that would mark the death of any Loophole scope. In my view,no scope is as rugged as those steel tube Weavers. At least, none better. You can still find them;I bought a K3 last year, and sent it to ElPaso to be reconditioned. It doesn't have the best lowlight feature, but it is great for mountain woodland hunting. Frank

Thanks for the replys Guy's! Burris doesn't make the 1.75X5 in gloss anymore or I would get one. I really want to stay away from matte finishes. The steel tube Weaver sounds interesting but I think I would like modern optics. Frank, where do you send them to be reconditioned? Are they as new when done? Thanks!

wiktor, I've got a El Paso Weaver K2.5 that's going on a 99EG. Mine has the post-and-crosshair reticle, and I flat love it. CLEAR, esp. considering the age. Comparable to most scopes out there today, and looks GOOOOOOOOD on a 99. BTW - I talked to the folks in El Paso. They take the scope apart, clean it inside and out, check and repair the reticle if needed, clean and/or replace the glass, nitrogen fill it, and put it back to as new or better before they send it back. WAY reasonable price, too. Here's the link: Weaver Scope Repair

The older weavers are great...E-bay is full of them
B like K4-B is from the eary '60s, K4-C is from late '60's early '70's. K4-1 USA I believe was mid '70's through '80's.
I put a K3-C on my new BLR and love it. E-bay is full of K4's and usually some K3's.
If you want a variable look for the V4.5 (1.5-4.5)

A used Vari-X II 1-4X20 variable might be a good choice. You can usually find one on ebay in decent shape for a little bit either side of $200.
Also, the M8 2.5X is a good straight tube low power scope that comes in a gloss black finish.
Unfortunately the used scope market is the only place to get those, as the newer VX-2 1-4 or Ultralight 2.5 only come in a matte finish.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

Another vote for the K3 steel tube. Matches the finish quite well. I had one on my 99A in .250 Savage.

Get a Weaver K3 steel tube. They look like they are made for the 99. The steel will even have the same greyish light patina as your receiver.
