One of the things we never see over on the Savage site is factory recoil pads on vintage lever rifles. While rare, they are not unheard of on Winchester rifles. Loggah was kind enough to post a fantastic M1895 .405 deluxe rifle with a pad in a post on another thread. Here are two I have with factory pads - one is a M55 .30/30 and the other M1894 .32 special carbine in semi-deluxe configuration with pistol grip stock (with grip cap) and checkered wood. I would really enjoy seeing other vintage Winchester lever rifles and carbines with factory pads.
Here is the M1894 with pad along with another .32 special carbine with shotgun butt, checkered pistol grip wood, Lyman long receiver sight and 3/4 magazine:
Steve, The 405 is the only winchester i have with a pad, i wouldn't have bought this one without the letter.I imagine factory pads are one of the more rare accessories. Dob
The problem is most of the records or should I say all for 70's,71's and 12's were destroyed(unless they were engraved gun's).A friend has a 71 Deluxe with a red Winchester pad that he ordered in the 50's but can't prove it unless he finds his original paperwork. It's also easy to fake a 70 Supergrade by changing stock's with a standard cause the stock's weren't serial numbered to the gun.Caveat Emptor with Winnies.
