In my exchange with the seller he acknowledged the scope mount holes (although he tried to play them off as a non-issue, saying that the holes were "very small" crazy ), and still said that he believed that the blue was original. When I pointed out that the blued lever, the blurred barrel lettering, and the blued muzzle were dead giveaways of a reblue, I got no response.

I'm with Rory on this one; this seller is aware of what he's selling, and he's consciously choosing to depict it as something it clearly is not. I'm amazed that this gun is drawing bids; somebody is gonna' be taken to the cleaners on this one.

again... the bidders can see the gun is reblued clear as day as well as can see the drill and tap... if those things were not shown it would be one thing but the bidders can see the carnage that is this POS and are still bidding...

Saw this one also, does the blue look strange on the receiver in pic #4? Lettering faint on barrel?

I was going to ask about this one after the auction ended. I wonder if savage torched that lever in the 70s?

That lever was torch colored as sure as God made little green apples. If Savage re-did that rifle (mighty big if, IMO) they surely wouldn't have pulled a trick like that.

As always, buy the gun not the story. That thing has value only as a reconditioned old rifle. If a letter from the factory is extant to back up the seller's claims, then perhaps it's worth a bit more than if done by another party but it still remains a re-finished gun. Collector value is based primarily on originality and condition thereof.

Refinish in my book. Wood for sure, metal 99% sure. Straight lines/scratches/grain going up and down on receiver are weird, and the sharp edges on metal are...not. It looks "melted", smooth, on the edges. I actually like the lever color, I wish they all lloked that good from the factory. Some are very subtle. Of course, I drive a pink truck too so don't listen to me.

My gosh, check out the final results on the "Pristine" .22 HP:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=251949402

Amazing. Three to four times the real value of the rifle.

That's what I was thinking as I looked at it too. Top two bidders have little or no feedback. It does smell fishy.

Another, from the same seller, that closed earlier today. $1,100+ for a post-mil F in .308 with swivel studs and refinished stocks, billed as "the gun of a lifetime." Again, main bidders have little or no feedback. Hmmm....
