You all have inspired me to pursue my love and collect 99's. I've been building the fire for awhile and am now fully engulfed. Longtime owner (and shooter) of a 99 in 375, last year purchased the 99 custom some of you no doubt saw on Gunbroker in 270 Titus, recent purchases include 99A 308 carbine length 99%, 99F 300 1959 almost like new, dreaded 99C 308 (future .338 Federal), and 1 other which you won't believe. The one that came yesterday was caked in original factory oil or grease and after two hours I had a beautiful, new and probably unfired 250-3000 serial number range 65X,XXX, for $650. Sorry, but I have it bad and you guys need to be held accountable for your part. Where can I sign up for the Savage 99 Campfire reimbursement plan?

You don't mention getting the original box but you reaaly oughta follow up on that and see if it can be found.

Good advice on finding the box, I'll check with them, but I don't think the gun shop that sold me the 250-3000 had any clue it was new. With the greenish brown goo all over the metal it looked like an aftermarket coating or parkerizing or worse. The lever looked black, like a reblue, and the whole gun looked uniformly ugly. The dried oil didn't come off easily until I took the lacquer thinner to it and revealed the perfect shiny bluing underneath.

Norm99, I thought I'd shoot the 250 in the rain and throw it under the seat to use as a backup jack handle. The barrel fits the jack perfectly, so I won't be able to send it to you for testing.

What a great start to a collection.

Fireball, be aware of Campfire law which limits the number of 99's which can be purchased per month. I beleive it's three. This law is for your own safety, because it's every bit as addicting as drugs...

Boswellbuckhunter,

Hi, my name is Roy and I have a Savage problem... Hey, I have an idea! How about all you guys send me one each from your collections, as a "Welcome to the Fire and we're sorry we got you involved" gesture of support. I promise to return them within the decade (in various states of use)

You aren't seriously going to SHOOT that are you? Why heavens, guns in THAT condition AND unfired don't come along everyday. You should put that in tha back of your safe and forget it's in there. grin grin grin wink wink wink

Put all that goop and ugliness back on it so your wife can sell it to me for what you told her you paid for it!

No, I may be just a lANdsCraPer, but I are not StUPaD, I will not shoot the 250-3000. I bought the 99 in 270 Titus (270-300 Savage) to augment the 99/375 to hunt with. The 99 in 270 just shot 1 1/2" (for 3 shots) at the 200 yard target using a Hornady 130 GMX at 2800 fps. I couldn't be happier. The 375 with a Trijicon 2.5-10x56 (overkill) shoots 1" at 100 and has always been utterly perfect and predictable. These two are really the reason I fell in love with 99's.

Brian,
I still can't believe I found this condition rifle and yes, my wife knows what I paid for it! Worse, she knows it's worth more, so sorry... I did tell her to sell them all and go to Disneyland if anything happens to me. I'm sure glad none of you guys knows where I live, I think my likelihood of having an "accident" would increase exponentially! grin I go deer hunting starting tomorrow, who knows, maybe the bears will get me and some time down the road you'll find a new Savage 99 EG 250-3000 sitting next to a 99 Brushgun in 375 in an obscure little gun shop in Small Town, USA. Sleep on that!

Roy....

Where is your mask and your gun? You MUST have 'em since you STOLE that .250/3000 (aka ".250 Savage") you just received. grin

Jus' kiddin', my friend... welcome to the Forum... and "congrats" on making a truly GREAT buy. You not only apparently got a brand new rifle, but you made a GREAT deal in buying it!

Thanks everyone. I live and hunt in the NW, Livin' the Dream, as my friend John calls it. We have an inordinate amount of bears here, which I like to watch more than hunt, plus I'm one county away from the biggest blacktails in all the world. In other words, I'm over here and they're over there... Hunting and (hopefully) work will be occupying my time in the near future but I will check in often. I'm a self-employed landscape contractor with a very understanding and beautiful wife who tells me to engage what I love. So I decided I would and starting getting 99's! She'll be sorry! Love reading the Campfire. Thanks for all the nice comments and ribbing, it makes me smile inside. Roy

Fatjack34,

Are you on auction sites with that name? I thought I saw you bidding on something. I will have my wife help with pictures and I'll get them all up there for you guys to check out. It will be a few days as hunting calls. Thanks. Roy
