Hit the range today with a Sako A7 in 300 WSM trying out some Superformance powder.
Norma brass Win mag primer 73.5 grains of SF 155 Scenar
3,440 mv. Primers were a little on the flat side and I'll drop the load .5 it still should get 3,400 mv. That's a smokin load.
168 BT's at 71.5 grains fetched 3,160s

Keep us posted if you try it with some different bullets. IE: 180 nosler pt's or 165 hornady interlocks. Thanks.....
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Wow !! I thought my 3320 fps was blazin with 150 AB's. I'm still on the brass I got from you. I've loaded it around 5 times now, so it is about time to start tossing it out . Primer pockets are starting to get a little loose....Thanks again buddy. I have been curious about the superformance powder so I hope we hear more about it. To the OP, that load is smoking hot!!!!!

I tried Superformance in my 300 WSM, but the groups were so large that I didn't even bother with the chrono. Glad to hear that it works.

Back from the range with further test and site in for a deer hunt. Shot for zero then put the next 3 on top of each other for a .5 3 shot group. Load was NBT 168's 3,250 MV with an ES of less than 10. (The Zeiss turret is going to like that.) Norma brass Win mag primer 71.0 grains of SF powder. This same load shot a 3/4" group the day before at 260 yards.

I'm more than likely missing something SU but in your first post you listed 168's w/71.5=3160 right? And then you posted 168's w/71 and they went 3250?
Thinking I'm missing something just not sure what?
Thx Dober

If you recall I ran the 150-155's with R17 to 3400 but ooh was it a hot load!
I backed it down to 3150-3200 and rock on with it cause it's so darn accurate in my rig.

Mark, yes, that was a Typo. I've Chrony twice after that to confirm the average of 3,250 with 71.0 grains. That is one grain less than Hodgdon recommends. http://www.hodgdon.com/PDF/SuperLever.pdfThey recommended Win Mag Primers and that is what I used. I've always had excellent results with Norma brass in the 300 WSM as well. 100 yd zero 1000 20.75 That's darn good and flat shooting for a 30 cal. I have shot this load to 500 yesterday on a gong. It was hit after hit with the dial. I'm high on these Zeiss elevation turrets btw. Like them better than the M1 or the CDS dial as if you have gloves on it's easier to dial. Very positive clicks and it's dead on. 4A reticle too. I tucked a shem under the rear to give me more come ups with the 1" tube.

Thx SU-thought something was amiss, that or wonky clock readings.
3400 wasn't easy street with R17 that's for sure.

I picked up a couple of pounds a couple of weeks ago - glad to see some real world results. I will be trying it in my 300 and 7mm WSM's.

Not only has it proven to be an accurate powder with higher velocity's, but also the ES is excellent. I suspect it's also a good powder for extreme temps and cleans up easily.
I'd like to try it in my 25-06 Ackley.
It was a no go in the 6.5x284 with 130 grain bullets.

SU,
Is Superformance an "extreme" powder? I'm on my iPad and Hogdon's drop downs won't open for me.
Thanks GK

An extreme powder? I'm not sure, but as I said, I suspect it is.

Thanks SU,
Hodgdon has an "Extreme" brand of powder that is supposed to be more temp insensitive than their standard powder. I checked this morning and Superformance is not in the "extreme" category.
However, I will take first hand knowledge such as yours over marketing any day!
Thanks again for the range info.

Hodgdon's list of Extreme powders is not "marketing." It is a list of their temp-resistant powders made by Australian Defense Industries, which all use the same technology--and work as claimed.
If Superformance isn't among the Extreme powders listed, then it isn't an Extreme powder.

John,
I used the term "marketing" incorrectly, and came across rather negative about Extreme powders. I actually like the extreme line and try to use it as much as possible.
My point was, I was hoping it was an Extreme product, but since it was not, I appreciate the input the op had about temps and I would keep that in mind while deciding what powder to use.

Go to www.hornady.com/store/Superformance-NewAmmo down the page you can download "Performance, Recoil & Comparison Tests" it talks about not be effected much by temp.
