Ok, I'll play....
Currently own: M77 30-06 round top with sights M77 284 Win flatbolt (serial #70-XXXXX) M77 243 Win flatbolt (serial #31XX) M77 257 Roberts M77 220 Swift M77 MKII stainless .223 Remington SBH 7.5" stainless Single Six
Have owned: M77 25-06 (dog, I traded it) M77 MKII VT 220 Swift (yea, the one I should have kept) #1V 6mm Remington #1V .223 Remington (dad has it now) 10/22 3 screw Blackhawk 77/22 VT 22mag KP-95DC (dead solid reliable)
Been seriously considering selling all of my M77s and getting a new All-Weather M77 MKII in 30-06 for all my big game duties. Seems I only need one for hunting and really don't have the time to shoot all of the rest. Still mulling it over, though.

My most accurate rifle is my Ruger #1V in .223 Rem. This will group in the .1" if I do my job by holding steady. Have a .45 long Colt SS Vaquero with faux Ivory grips and a 3-5/8" barrel (yeah, you read that right...it's short), a Sporter 10/22 and a Super BlackHawk in .44Mag.
All other Rugers I used to own I gave to my kids who are currently beating the S$%* out of them like I did when I was younger. Rugers are simply a great value IMHO.

There was a time I just carried a rubber mallet to work the bolt on my 7 mag. I think I was shooting 76 grain of H-4831 behind 115 grain HP's. It was all fun and games when I was 16 until I had a couple head separations that cost me money at the gunsmith to remove the stuck cases. Can't tell you how fast those were, but I can tell you they were devasting on varmints. During my early years I'm positive the strength of that Ruger M77 saved my life and limbs. There was a couple times it took more than a rubber mallet to get it going again. Try taking a 2 pound hammer and a block of wood to the bolt handle on your 700. Having never owned a Remington 700 I didn't know breaking a bolt handle was ever an issue with any kind of bolt action.

presently have; MK11 blue/wood in 223 tang 77 heavy barrel in 220 Swift 10/22 (1968 mfg) Ruger standard auto (my dad bought new in 1964) Single Six lightweight (1957) Security Six with 4" Colt python bbl ( Bill Davis custom) Vaquero 44-40 new in the box (thinking maybe collectible someday in that caliber??)
Have owned several others in the past I wish I had kept except for a 77 tang safety in 270 that I couldnt get a good group out of after trying several loads, bedding ,etc. All in all, I think they are great high quality guns.

"Try taking a 2 pound hammer and a block of wood to the bolt handle on your 700. Having never owned a Remington 700 " How big of a hammer I could use on the bolt has never been a factor in my purchase of any bolt gun. I use loading manuals, not hammers. billt. Forgot the Stainless Single Six

billt, I believe you missed the point entirely. My post was in response to the strength of Ruger bolt handles. Like I said. Having never owned a 700 I didn't even know that any bolt action rifles had an issue with the bolt handle coming off. Many 700 handles have come off just with normal operation. Now that, is a factor that would affect my decision.
Now add that to the fact that many (I'm not saying all) Remington rifles need the action bedded, trued up and the trigger changed out to get a decent shooter takes them off my shopping list for an out of the box shooter. I'm not saying the Ruger is great as is but in an hour or so I can dial in a 77Mark II to be smooth and have a very sweet 2 pound trigger without spending a dime.

Four years back, in a lil mom-n-pop gunshop, I found my first Ruger. An older but mint 77 mk II stainless/lam chambered in .22PPC with a Leu 24X bench scope. This rig will print 5 rounds under .25 with match prepped loads. Best group was a .18 The metal fit on this rifle is superb, better than my 700's almost equal to my Sako. Long live Ruger
