Today I was in my local gun shop today a guy was looking a a Rem 700 BDL he was concerned that the gun had a high serial number and he heard that certain serial numbered guns were made when the tooling was wearing out and the tolerances were loose making the rifles less accurate and less reliable.
Has anyone heard this rumor before? I've heard about the safety/ trigger problem.

I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...

They replace the tooling on a daily basis. CNC's compensate for wear. They inspect the parts. Waht's the problem?

Rem 700 tooling has been replaced numerous times over the 40 years or so of manufacture. If there has been quality problems with the 700 it has absolutely nothing to do with tool wear.
