And lady luck smiles on the hunters thrice: they survived, have a whale of a story to pass down, and will have a nice nest egg after agreeing to sell their story/become sponsors to the gun and ammo products used (AKA the highest bidders)...  That's a helluva' story. Bet those boys were cursing the plugs in their scatterwompers something fierce.

As long as Alaska's state wildlife law enforcement folks write it off as good, then that should be fine with all of us. Just seems from the pics that bear got dragged around alot, boat doesn't seem too torn up for sitting on land while this happened, (yet the bow is pointed in several different directions), bear looks excellent for taking all those close range 12 gauge loads, moose ran off I guess. The write up is alot more dramatic then the pics.

Maybe it would do to have some 00 buckshot or slugs handy as reloads next time just in case. Number 4 shot vs a brown bear, wow!

Stuff happens, and if you have ever been in the close company of a brown bear you might just might have a clue to self preservation. Drove by the site of the incident twice today and saw a flock of ravens in a tree quite a way from where it occurred, but I bet it was a carcass they were eyeing... Wonder if another bear has made it in on the kill... Season opened Saturday IIRC.

I'll bet that the duck hunters wanted to drag the bruin and their gear to someplace dry and more flat for skinning.
