Evening fellas >> Anyone out there have experience with this make of semi-auto? Been thinking about getting it for some time now. Just wondering what they're all about. Thanks. >> klallen

They are not bad pistols and are reasonably accurate. However I personally wouldn't have one other than as a curiosity and an occasional fun shooter. If you get one be advised of this. Find some replacement spring steel "C" clamps which are used to hold the grips together. They will break during assembly/disassembly and are almost impossible to find. The 7.62 Tok is not the best pistol round going. Too small and too fast IMO also the M52 was designed to use a round that was loaded quite a bit hotter than the standard Russian Tok round. Unless you can lay in a supply of sub gun ammo function becomes marginal at best with standard loads. I have experienced this on more than a few of these pistols. Also be aware that most of the Tok ammo is corrosive and the roller lock on the M52 is wicked to really clean unless you want to boil it. You may love this beast but just wanted you to be aware of the problems.

I have 3 of these fine handguns and they are all excellent shooters. They are very inexpensive usually between $130-190. The stock trigger is a little hard to get used to but over on makarov.com they sell competition firing pin kits that reduce the pull to that of a nicly tuned 1911. As to ammo Sellier and Ballot is noncorrosive and runs 1630 fps. I was shooting one of mine today and had no problem hitting bowling pins at 70 yards. There is lttle recoil but a lot of muzzleblast. There is also one company who loads Hornady XTP hollow point ammo for defense. Read the information over on www.makarov.com and you will appreciate the gun a lot more......Bob

I had a CZ52 for a number of years. It shot great with the hot loads (smg) and was really fun to shoot.
Depending on the purpose for the gun ammo availability might be a consideration. While the hot stuff generates me in excess of 400 ft lbs the small bore and fmj makes this round questionable for self-defense.
In my humble opinion.

I own a Chinese Tokarev which I bought on a lark a few years ago. It was a convertable...9mm and 7.62 X 25. I didn't care for the feeding of the 9mm, so I opted to load the 7.62. I reload everything...would do .22 rimfires if I could.

Well...I bought a set of dies cheap, got some brass from Midway (Starline) and looked up loads on the internet.

The gun is a pip. It shoots 3 inch groups at 25 yards all day (okay, not a target gun!) but NEVER jams, and I am getting 1200 fps out of 100 grain bullets and 110's as well. I use the Speer .308 "plinker" and it is a soft point. The 30 cal M1 Carbine bullets, soft point or fmj are all pretty accurate. It's a big gun...as big as a 1911...but it shoots hard and is cheap to shoot. The "factory" military loads are 85 grainers at something like 1400 fps, but I prefer the 100's.

If you can get the gun cheap, then do it...but only if you reload. Otherwise, you may never shoot the thing.

Good luck,
