I have had a 140 acre farm for the entire time I have lived at my current location. Rifle season opened Saturday and on Friday afternoon at 3:30 PM I received a call telling me to get my stands off the property. The call was received from a person who had rented my farm out from under me.

Needless to say I felt like I was kicked in the balls by this person, given the fact that I lost my place and that I received the call about 15 hours before I'd be out there!

Now, I have NO place to hunt this fall...the first time that has happened since I was a sophomore in High School. I'm now 54 years old....and am so upset I feel like jumping off a bridge.

The guy owns over 150,000 acres and they felt the need to lease an additional 140 acres? Give me a break.

Greed knows no limit!!!!!! Money becomes an accumulation game.
You can have some fun finding a new spot. About the bridge, it isn't the speed that gets you it is the fast stop. Find a smile and go hunting. Buckfever1

That would be about the worst, sorry to hear it.

I am a little nervous about some douchebag trying to lease out some of the land I currently hunt(for free). No way to compete with big out of state $$$.

Capitalism is boss. It pays to own. Sorry that it happened that way, though. Your landowner could have been a tad more on the thoughtful side...to say the least.

It's hard to compete with big in-state money too!

Lost lots of land over the years, gained land too by seeking out and joining clubs with compatible hunting values - get out there and start looking, asking around, check out the GA hunting website, etc. Major pain to have to tear down stands quickly (done that a few times too) pick up the salvageable stands, leave the others (you might get the place back someday)

Yeah, I imagine it's really bad in lots of other states.

For the time being MT is still okay but each year it's getting tougher.

I thank my late father every year, for raising me in a national forest, with millions of acres to hunt on,and being close by to be familiar with it.I literally have dozens of stand sights to chose from.I put my stand up in a new spot every few years, unless it produces consistantly.

Godogs that does suck, but the only way to keep that schit from happening is to have your own lease with a renewal date well in advance of the season opener, in case the land owner decides not renew with you.

People who hunt for free nowadays can expect that kind of thing to happen.

The hunting for free ended here 3 decades ago...

same happened to me a couple years ago. worst part is the guy leased it for one year and apparently pissed off the landowner, who now does not allow hunting.

All the time you were hunting for free, did it never occur to you to do something to lock the place in?? The fellow that owned it and was giving you a free pass was still paying taxes and doing any upkeep that needed done. Just sayin'..........

Been there 18 years....and where I live there are no national forests...no public land. Still looking for a tall bridge...

find a place to lease yourself, a hunt club or something.

That's about as bad as I've ever heard!!

Something similar happened to me in Miss. about 10 years ago. I've mentioned it here before, so I wont go into details.

Might try what I did. Ask friends and neighbors about places to hunt. I was surprised to find one of my neighbors had a place I could hunt that hadnt been hunted in 4-5 years, 2 miles from my house. Another neighbor let me hunt a place about 25 miles away. Several friends invited me for a hunt on their places.

I took the money I saved from the club fees and bought me a new rifle! Helped ease the pain!

happened to me 10 years ago. i hunted the same place for 30+ years. so i gave up hunting private land, bought a GPS and maps for the SF and SGL's and never looked back. i have thousands of acres to hunt and my only competition is on the first day or so. after that, its like my own property.

Glad it worked out for you.

I lost the place I've hunted for 22 years. I could see it coming for the last 3 years or so. I'm hunting a chunk of state land that I haven't been on in 12 years. It's fun re learning some of these areas and finding some new spots, as I did today.

It will all work out in the end.
