Spent Saturday up at the camp. Didn't see much for deer sign yet. SIL put up a new ladder stand.
DIL and my son filled their Oregon whitetail doe tags over in eatern OR Saturday. My son also dispatched a rattle snake. The grandson was with them so he's getting quite an education.

We had a pretty good day in the bushes today. Got a ladder stand put up in what I think is a good spot. Not a lot of rut sign yet though, a few rubs is about all. We wanted to get more done, but it started to rain and we called it a day. Here is the ladder. We call it "Pine Stand" for obvious reasons. View from the pine stand to the west. View to the east...Uncle Andy (my BIL) cutting brush for me. Not sure if this is a good or bad omen, but I found it at the bottom of the tree the Pine stand is in. Here is where Andy plans to sit. We call it "The Fort." The view north from The Fort and the trail to the stand. To the west To the south To the east

Nice rifle Brent. What caliber? it is a .54. I was out today looking for squirrels. I found 3 and shot at and killed 2. But while I was at it, a pair of does came by - fast! Right behind them was a very nice, very symmetrical and well proportioned 8 pt. They pulled up at 15 ft while I just sat fully exposed at the base of a tree. Could have put a subsonic .22 behind is ear, but I was not legal for this location, and that rifle wouldn't have been legal anyway. Lots of new scrapes down here. I hung some cameras, but I will not get to deer hunt again until about 19 December I think. Something like that. I got 11 lbs of antelope/lamb burger ground tonight. Should be good. Pheasants next weekend. Brent PS. you guys have the most awesome stands and shooting lanes etc. I just plunk my butt on a log here or there and hang out for a little while before moving on. Just lazy I guess.

Bill, Thanks. I hope it does a good job, the thing is a beast! It is wider than my other one by 4". I couldn't use the full width of the old one because it didn't have the power to throw the snow anyway. This should be nice. It is easy to start too, because the kid did it in 3 pulls.

Man what a read! Its taken three weeks but I've read all 1538 pages and enjoyed it very much. Thanks for letting me and others share this great thread. I lost my sister in 2006 so I can relate to the healing process. My hats off to you ND you are a great father. I have two girls 18 and 14 theyre not really into hunting but boy can they fish! Thanks Mrs.ND for allowing me (us)to tag along on all the adventures and putting up with Dave when all that stuff just follows him home from the hardware store! We dont have a camp here in Okie land we hunt about 25 miles from home but we would love to have a special place like yours some day . If I can figure out how to post pics I will share some of our hunts both old and new . Our muzzle loader season started yesterday and my wife got a 6 pt (she has killed a deer opening day the last four years in a row) and thanks to all the regulars for you post as well . With all the gun trading going on here I think a new 7mm08 may have to follow me home !

First, congrats to your wife on the 6 point! And thanks for the nice words. I have a few pictures of some stand work. And the 264 is shaping up, liking the handloads.

Any of mine help? Yes Tom you were extremely helpful with your experience and advice. You are the one that suggested the IMR 7828 which I later confirmed as a quite popular powder for the 264. Your 65 gr load is suspect of being a bit warm for my rifle though. The 60 gr loads were typical accuracy for what I would see in remington or winchester factory loads. 1.5" to 2" groups. The 62.5" load shot nice. We shot a 3/4" group which was high so I dialed the scope to bring the point of impact down. I repeated and the 2nd group got a little bigger on me but still much improved over what I had seen with factory loads. The 1st shot with a 65 gr load was difficult to extract with the bolt. The primer had a shiny spot on it as well, and some extraction drag marks above the belt on the case. I had 5 of that load left to shoot, I decided to shoot them but I put a light film of oil on the cases. I know that's not advisable but I wanted to shoot them out. The other 5 extracted effortless with no signs of overpressure so that 1st load may have been a bit of a fluke. My most likely contributor to that shiny primer was that I was having a hard time seating the remington 9 1/2M primers deep enough. I suspect I was a bit proud of the base with that primer. Even still I think I will load some up at 64 gr of powder this week and head to the range to re-zero the rifle. I suspect I may have to bring point of impact up close to an inch when I drop a grain. The 65 grain load shot really well though, 3/4" group with that load as well. My next opportunity off a bench I may try a 5 shot group. The big thing is I have gained a lot of confidence in the rifle. It had been a consistent 1.5" - 2" rifle with factory ammo. And I was frustrated with not being able to achieve MOA consistently.
