ok..i hate to ask a really stupid quesiton, but when you have to cure cerakote using a heat chamber of some kind, what exactly do you use? I don't know the heat source or size, but its not a kitchen oven, so can you use heat lamps set up in teh garage or something? I have virtually no experiences with cerakote, or any coating for that matter, but an interest in doing several rifles. thanks

I use a double burner hot plate in a insulated cheapo sheet metal gun safe. I also use a heat gun through the door, more to circulate the heat than raise the temp.

Here is what I did for a cheap effective gun oven.

[Linked Image]

What you see in the picture is a double wall vent pipe I bought at Home Depot for about $18. It's wrapped in pipe insulation which may or may not be necessary.

It sits on a hotplate which has a tempreture control. When you buy one of these make sure it's one with the "old style" eye and not a solid plate. Those don't seem to work as good.

The top is a simple paint can lid with an eye hook to hold the barreled action and a BBQ thermometer (Home Depot $5.)

[Linked Image]

It's simple, requires no tools except for putting a hole in a paint can lid and it works like a charm.

Hope this helps,
Terry

I've gotten a lot of help here myself. Always happy to give back.
