Anyone know the twist rate of the rifling on the 6MM. I'd like to try some 105 grain bullets I found. Mark, I don't think there is a definitive answer to that question... I think it would depend on year of manufacture, and whose barrels they were using at the time... Some reloading manuals offer twist-rate tables. My Speer and my Sierra both state that Ruger #1 has 1~10 twist... HTH...

Congratulations on the 6mm in the #1B. I have one and love it! I've taken gophers, coyotes, antelope, deer, and a spike bull elk with mine. Yes it's a little light for elk but the 100 gr. Nosler Partition sure did a job on him. He didn't know he was being shot with such a small caliber! Good luck and welcome to the 6mm Remington club. It is a fantastic cartridge!!! David Ruger #1B 6mm 6x Leupold They can shoot too!

6mm,
thank you for the welcome and the nice words.
For clarities sake - it was the 6 mm Remington cartridge that had me catch this Ruger No. 1B.
I have a Mauser 98 in 6mm Rem - and really like it.
German hunting law calls for .264" bore for big game, so 6mm Remingtons do not sell here.
The target guys take a .243 instead...
Well, my gain. This will be the first time I have two rifles with identical cal. in the safe.

That rifle's name would be Kermit, correct?

Dave,
thank you very much. I like the rifle.
To clarify - I can hunt roe deer with it in Germany. 6,5 mm cal. on all big game, except roe deer.
So, I picture this my still hunting rifle for fox and roe deer.
There is worse fates, I guess.
Can not wait to initiate it. The picture was taken on a still hunt for roe deer - albeit none showed...

6mm Rem is a good ctg. With the new powder that we have now, it can be a real performer. Check out John Barsness Am. Rifleman article on the "Other Six's" or title similar. He give some good loads.
I have a .240 Wby and the 6mm Rem, with the right loads, chases the .240 pretty well. Hodgdon's Superperformance and RL-17 both give impressive performance in the 6mm Rem.

Dirtfarmer,
thank you for the tips. I have much faith in the 6mm and would hunt red deer with it pushing a 85gr TSX or 90 gr. E-Tip in a heart beat.
Albeit German hunting law mandates 6,5 and up + 2000 Joule at 110 yards...
The Joule it has - just missing that .021 of an inch...

CMG, I enjoy loading for and hunting with the 6mm Remington. As you likely know it's an excellent cartridge for varmints, coyotes, and deer sized game. I started using one in 1974, and today my son still hunts with that same rifle. Ours is a Remington 700, but that Ruger of yours is a truly special rifle. I think you're going to enjoy!
