What is the best mounting set up for this combination? I have a Leupold QR Base and Medium Rings now and it's way too far off the rifle. Post up pics of what you have if available...I really want to get the scope down quite a bit.

Thanks

Robert

I'd try the Tally LW lows. It's too much scope for the cartridge IMO.

I have some brockman's pop-up peep sights for my 338marlin heading my way. The peep is integrated into a custom talley base for about 150.00. brockman's rifles.

And who asked your opinion on the scope?

I had a 1-4 VXII and didn't like the reduced light capability.

weaver makes very low detachable rings, but they need a weaver base. They are only an 1/8" inch thick at the bottom of the ring.

I looked into this for my 338MX with a Leupold 2.5-8 x 36

What I found is that there are Low rings and then there are low rings. Huh??

Here's an example. Burris' low rings for the weaver base were slightly higher than Weaver's medium rings. Midwayusa used to have a chart listing ring heights.

Nothing on their list was as low as weaver rings. Keep in mind though, the table did not include a one piece ring / base kit. Sadly the quad lock do not come in low but were still lower than other companies' low rings. The next lowest was the Burris rings.

The other thing to take a look at is a beartooth comb elevation kit. Works great on my rifle.

Put it on, get the height correct and then let it sit for a while. This allows the foam time to warp to the stock from the pressure of the neoprene sleeve. Mine doesn't shift at all.

I would think a .25 light factor would work just fine, and the 6x (36mm lense)is actually not quite as bright as the 4x with a strait 1" tube. I would be much more worried about eye relief.
